Durham Vitality T20 Blast North Group at Trent Bridge Win 4 pts Report

31/05

MUNSEY SUNDAY

Guiding Notts home to a first welcome win

Notts won their first T20 match of 2026 at the 4th attempt beating Durham by six wickets with 16 balls to spare in front of a crowd of around 5,000 at Trent Bridge today.

An unchanged Notts elected to bowl on a used pitch which played better than anticipated. The forecasted showers never arrived and most of the game was played in bright sunshine.

Clark was out to the first ball of the match, caught behind by Moores via a thin edge off Pennington (Pavilion End); 0 for 1. Bedingham hit Pennington for 6 over long on, 10 off the first over. Bedingham hit Stone for four through mid-wicket; 8 off the 2nd over. After miscuing Ali, skipper Lees (2) was well caught by Clarke diving full length at mid-on; 18 for 2. Four off the third over. Pennington conceded four off the 4th over, Robinson scooped Ali for four to fine leg and a four through point; 9 off the 5th over. Bedingham hit Linde for four through extra cover. Bedingham (24) then miscued Linde and was caught by Clarke running from mid-on. Raine fell for a golden duck caught by McCann on the square leg ropes. Durham 41-4 off 6 overs and in real trouble.

Howell conceded seven off the 7th over and Linde went for three in the 8th over. Robinson hit Howell for an extra cover boundary, nine off the 9th over. Robinson lofted Linde (3-0-19-2) for an extra cover four. Durham 70-4 off 10 overs.

Robinson (36 off 27 balls, 4x4) was plumb lbw to a delivery from Howell that struck his back pad (71 for 5); five off the 11th over. McCann went for 4 in the 12th over. Ackermann lofted Howell (4 0 32 1) for a long leg four and next ball for a four to third man; 10 off the 13th over. McCann conceded five in the 14th over. Ackermann (25) was bowled leg stump via a yorker by Stone (99 for 6); 7 off the 15th over.

Rhodes and Aldridge gave the innings some belated momentum adding 44 in 4.1 overs for the 7th wicket. Rhodes hit McCann (3 0 19 0) for successive fours through mid-wicket and long on; 10 off the 16th over. Rhodes scooped Ali for six over fine leg; 14 off the 17th over. Aldridge hit Pennington (3 0 24 1) for a square leg four; 10 off the 18th over. Aldridge lofted Ali for four over extra cover. Top scorer Will Rhodes (38 off 32 balls; 3x4, 1x6) miscued Ali (4-0-35-2) to Munsey who took the steepling catch in the covers (143 for 7). Eight plus a leg bye off the 19th over. Stone (3-0-25-2) bowled the last over. Aldridge lofting him for a straight four and scooping him for four but then he was well caught by Linde running from mid-off to extra cover (155 for 8). Sowter ran a bye off the last ball. Durham 156 for 8 off 20 overs – Potts 3 not out. A total which looked under par. Pennington and Stone both benefited from pitching the ball more often. Pocklington neither batted or bowled in the match.

Parkinson went for three singles off the opening over. Munsey hit Potts for consecutive fours through point and extra cover. Two balls later he clubbed him to the mid-wicket ropes and next ball for a straight four, 16 off the 2nd over. Clarke hit Aldridge for six over mid-wicket then smashed the second ball for a straight four. Clarke (11), stepping across his stumps, was lbw to the third delivery (29 for 1), 13 off the 3rd over. Haynes hit Raine for four through extra cover; 11 off the 4th over. Munsey swept Parkinson for four through wide third man. Two balls later, Munsey launched him for six over mid-wicket. Haynes (10) was caught by Clark at short fine leg after attempting a slog sweep off Parkinson; 54 for 2 off 5 overs. The left handers Munsey and McCann erased any nerves by adding 91 in 11.1 overs for the 3rd wicket. Munsey edged Potts for four and next ball cover drove him to the ropes. Notts 63 for 2 off 6 overs.

Sowter conceded five singles in the 7th over. McCann hit Ackermann for four through mid-wicket; 9 off his sole over. The forever appealing Sowter (3-0-28-0) went for six and a leg bye in the 9th over. Munsey got to his 50 off 30 balls with a lofted four off Raine. Notts 93 for 2 off 10 overs.

Parkinson (3-0-20-1) conceded six off the 11th over. McCann top edged Potts to the third man boundary. Three balls later he lofted him to the long off boundary; nine off the 12th over.

Munsey survived a chance on 58 skying Aldridge to extra cover, substitute Haydon Mustard failing to get his outstretched hands to the chance running towards the boundary. McCann hit Aldridge for four through backward point; 12 off the 13th over. Raine went for four singles in the 14th over. Munsey found the fine leg ropes off Sowter. The second ball was a six over square leg. Munsey hit the last ball for his second six of the over this time over long on, 17 plus a leg bye off the 15th over. The economical Raine (4-0-25-0) conceded a single plus two leg byes off the 16th over.

McCann (32 off 33 balls, 4x4) skied Potts (4-0-39-2) and Clark took a running catch in the covers (145 for 3). A wide followed. Moores fell for a golden duck caught behind by Robinson off Potts (146 for 4). Five plus a leg bye off the 17th over. When Linde (7*) flicked Aldridge (2.2-0-31-1) to the fine leg ropes Notts (157-4 off 17.2 overs) had won the game and moved to 5th in the Northern group standings above bottom club Leicestershire.

Left hander Munsey (88* off 52 balls, 9x4, 3x6) following scores of 26, 37 and 18 had guided Notts to a welcome win. The 33-year-old using all his experience gained from his 77 limited-overs and 88 T20 matches for Scotland. He and the team need to use today as a platform for the rest of the 20-over season. Next up a cross-pool match against struggling Warwickshire at Trent Bridge on Friday. The Bears have lost all four games so far in the 2026 Blast. Sam Hain currently has 96 runs @24.00 in this years tournament….MAG

  1. As Mark Stevenson correctly points out on the earlier thread, The Rolling Stone’s bowling last night was totally unfathomable. With the career he has had, playing both international and franchise cricket around the globe 🌍, he must have acquired the skillset to bowl slower ball yorkers, balls bowled back of a length into the pitch and the tried and trusted pace off and slower variety of deliveries ? I cannot believe for one 1️⃣ minute a bowling coach as good as Kevin Shine told him to bowl to that plan. He clearly hasn’t got that electrifying pace he once had - perfectly understandable with his injury nightmares - and without much variation now appears to be the perfect pace nicely coming onto the bat to go the distance. We also have to say well batted to Donald. I’ve seen him bat in that fashion for Glamorgan, albeit don’t think he took 32 off one over !
George Linde must have more in his armoury than we’ve seen so far, surely. SURELY? By definition your two overseas signings have to be the X factor point of difference players over the competition - otherwise there’s just no point in shelling out for them. ‘Float like a butterfly πŸ¦‹, sting like a bee 🐝’ does look a good quality, highly skilled bowler - everybody goes in t20 cricket these days, so he’s bound to get whacked still every so often, it’s a batsman’s game after all.
Massive credit to the newly bearded πŸ§”‍♂️ Major Tom Moores. Fighting a lone cause, he showed unbelievable courage and character after being nastily felled by that short pitcher, to continue batting hitting boundaries like it had, had little effect on him. With all his tribulations when he was playing red ball πŸ”΄, to forge out a new white ball career, he must have great mental strength and resilience. Major Tom is now one of our main key performers in the batting unit. I honestly wonder πŸ’ now whether we should open the batting with him ? We may now struggle to make the quarters, but we can still show, fight, grit and a better gameplan going forwards. Cmon the Outlaws πŸ’šπŸ’› and Cmon the mighty Blaze πŸ”₯

  2. 82 NOT OUT
If Sam Seecharan is in the chosen 11 then I hope his luck changes . Everything has gone wrong for him up to now when playing for the first team . Should be an excellent day out today at TB with the double header Blaze starting at 11am . It’s a long long day but the current heatwave appears to be over
Durham and Notts seem pretty evenly matched and the Bookies price up at 10/11 each of two . A bit unusual to see a team leading the County Championship but also at the foot of the Blast with zero wins . Things are bound to change - perhaps today is the day ?

  3. Joe Clarke was reading a crib sheet whilst juggling his bowlers on Friday, yet he still had to give the last over to the expensive Linde, he even dodged going for a catch at the end of their innings (Montgomery?), his head so wrapped-up in other matters(??). Is he cut out for captain, really?

    1. A lot of calls now for the coach's son to take the captain's armband but is he enough of his own man? We've not seen enough of Benny Howell to know if if he has leadership qualities, but he is someone that potentially could be in the Dan Christian mould, perhaps.

Not every player is cut out to be Captain. If Joe is unhappy in the role then he should pass the baton on so he can concentrate on being the run machine we know he is . Notts need his runs at the top of the order .

  5. 82 NOT OUT .
Dave , I have listened to a couple of post match interviews with Joe Clarke and I detect he is not very happy in the role . The many distractions the Captaincy brings will affect some more than others . Personally I think he will score MORE runs MOT being Captain
Just to make me look a fool , just watch him get a quick fire 90 not out this afternoon !?

  9. As The Smiths would sing “Every day is like Munsey”….no, that doesn’t work at all - where’s AI when you need it !
But, what a totally fabulous day. The weather 🌦️, which thankfully is always in the lap of the weather Gods and not the App predictive forecasters, played ball. In fact I was almost too hot at times in my Lord Broad freebie Notts hoodie !
Crowd slighting disappointing but everyone was having a great time. Is this the only good thing to come from The Hhhhhhundred - the double header which is a brilliant format. Hard luck πŸ€ Blaze πŸ”₯ girls, massive well done to the Notts Outlaws. Next up the girls v the old Central Sparks and the lads versus Sam Hain, and Amber’s 🐾🐾favourite Dan Mous🐭ley, those pesky Bears 🐻 from Warwickshire

    1. As you will be aware I opted for ther Mamas and Pappas, which would have worked better a day later but then on a Monday I mighy have opted for the Bangles. Just so long as the Boomtown Rats don't make an appearance.... eh!

It was suggested that I took the Dick Dastardly and Munsey route...
