 Easy Bears

With other T20 fixtures being re-scheduled due to the District Line actions yesterday morning, the game at Edgbaston was the sole match this evening; the weather was the best in the Midlands that we've had for quite some time too.

1/26 and 23* next stop England
Cameron White clubbed a 60 not out for the visiting Sticklebacks helping them to 149/4 but that score prove short of the mark as Laurie Evans smashed 68 not out to see the hosts home with an over to spare.

Yorkshire set 150/5 when they elected to bat on a rain-free June evening; former Sheep Gary Ballance top scorer. In pursuit, Sheep were pegged back by the off breaks of Azeem Rafiq plus the medium pacers of Moin Ashraf and Rich Pyrah. Tykes winning by 41 runs.

v Durham Dynamos T20 at Chester le Street

Dynamos fail to generate as Outlaws charge!

Sunday 17 June 2012

Outlaws dominate Dynamos

Notts reaped a comfortable revenge on Durham for their CB40 reversal earlier this season at CLS.

As at Grace Road, it was the bowlers that set-up the win keeping a strong Durham side down to a well below par score after their 20 overs. Lead again by Michael Lumb, Notts Outlaws notched-up another comfortable chase, having 22 balls to spare.

Durham Dynamos 114/5

Harry Gurney 2/28

Outlaws 117/3 (16.2 ov)

In the other Northern Group, Foxes crashed again this time to Yorkshire at Headingley; Leicestershire all out 148, losing by 22 runs

Another below par score was recorded by Surrey at Beckenham, 116/7 Gary Wilson 53*, Kent won by 8 wickets with 22 balls to spare; Rob Key 51*

At New Road, Pears roller-coasted Gloucestershire Gladiators, blasting them off the park with a powerful batting display.

Durham Bound

3 ball duck
The DofC has reinstated Samit Patel to the T20 squad for the trip tomorrow to Durham, after he missed out on selection for the England squad in the ODI at the Rose Bowl, with Graeme White and Luke Fletcher.also added to the Fox slaughtering eleven.

In the ODI, England posted a score of 288/6, probably a below par score, Ian Bell 126, with his fractured jaw.

In reply, WI are comfortably on target to go one up in the series, even without Chris Gayle, 117/3 in 19 overs, although the dismissal of Dwayne Smith for 56 might prove to be game changing.. England will need to bowl the tourists out to win from this position in all probability.

Latest score...........................

Two wickets put England ahead on the DL par and when it started raining WI were 127/5 from 23 overs with the DL par at 171.

On resumption, with a DL twiddle, Windies were bowled out for 172, England winning by 114 runs, the remaining showing little of the expected fire-power.

The two ball system appears to play to England's strengths and it was one of these, Tim Bresnan, that did the damage, 4/34.

Derby Day 1 Rain

Traditionally the biggest money-spinners for the domestic T20 competition are the London derby games. Tonight the first of these is at Lord's.

Surrey batting first were 36/4 at one of the multitude of rain interruptions; but this was their nadir as Matthew Spriegel and Gary Wilson both notched-up unbeaten fifties., 149/4. Middlesex were 99/8 when the rain descended for the last time, Gareth Batty 4/13, Surrey winning by 28 runs on DL.

The West Country derby was abandoned earlier due to heavy rain at Bristol.

There were additional rain offs at Hove and Northampton (9.3 overs were played before the rain started) but play was possible, almost in full, at the Sheep-dip. Lightning posted a venue par-score of 168/6 which perhaps should have been more but they were penned-in by Mark Turner and Chesney Hughes. The Sheep innings was suspended at 118/5 in the twelfth over, Derbyshire well ahead of the DL, as the rain arrived in Derby too.

Notts launched a new micro site for the T20 competition today - http://twenty20.trentbridge.co.uk/

Also today the club announced the team for tomorrow's "early" clash with the Sheep.

As before (the Foxes game) but Graeme White replacing the England ODI bound Samit Patel - the overseas player that bowls spin would have been handy tomorrow but we'll have to settle with weakening the batting.

Friday's games

At Birmingham there was another wash-out but at Leicester, Lightning beat Foxes by 11 runs

Lancashire 154/6
Stephen Moore 54
Leicestershire 143/8
Abdul Razzaq 36
Josh Cobb 32
Greg Smith making his T20 debut was out hit wicket for 21.

Durham beat Yorkshire at Leeds by 2 runs.

Durham 142/6
Ben Stokes 36

Yorkshire 140/8
Rich Pryah 34

v Leicestershire Foxes T20 at Grace Rd 2012

Foxes give an easy chase

In a game with less than two hours total playing time, Notts thrashed Leicestershire Foxes with 42 balls unused at sparsely populated Grace Road.
Voges won the toss and inserted the home side on cool cloudy night. After the recent rain the wicket played poorly and was an unsuitable surface to play hit and giddle cricket.

Gurney (Pavilion) and Pattinson (Bennett) opened the bowled and with his fourth delivery Grimsby’s finest bowled Josh Cobb after the right hander had hit the previous two balls for four. Two overs later du Toit with a big one-day ton to his name against Notts was leg before to Pattinson. Carter could not get his line right as Leicestershire finished their 6-over power play on 41 for two.

Regular baseball bowling partners Patel and Mullaney applied the tourniquet to Leicestershire innings as the home side collapsed. In his first over Mullaney removed left hander Boyce caught and bowled low down for nine. In the ninth over Ramarnesh Sarwan who had been starved somewhat of the strike fell in identikit fashion caught and bowled by Mullaney as Leicestershire stood at 56 for four.
Former Gladiator Kadeer Ali hit Mullaney straight to Wessels at long on as he claimed his third wicket. It got worse as in the next over Patel Pakistani Razzaq played round a ball and departed to another stonewall leg before decision, 65 for 6 in the 12th over.

The home crowd finally had something to cheer as Wayne White hit Patel for a straight six, but next ball he departed bowled by Patel, who will no longer play any further part in the preliminary games due to England commitments. Harrow educated Rob Taylor was next on the conveyor belt being well caught at midwicket by the captain as Mullaney picked his fourth wicket at a cost of 19 runs. The final two batsman did not last long as the skipper replaced Patel from the Bennett End, first old timer Claude Henderson miscued a ball as Patel took a fine running catch in the covers. Hoggard nursing a broken finger lasted just a single ball as he fell leg before to Voges as Leicestershire had hit their competition low score of 96 all out with 15 balls unused. The lowest score against Notts had also been beaten by 10 runs, the previous low of 106 being achieved by Lancashire at TB in 2005. Patel (2-20) and Pattinson (2 for 21) proved good support to Mullaney as the skipper had two for six off nine balls. I am not sure of the merits of Gurney and Carter in the same line up, particularly with Graeme White now coming in. Adams is unlikely to step in to the line up so the obvious choice would be Fletcher, unfortunately he needs to lose weight as whilst performing water bottle duties he brought comparisons from  the home crowd of the long forgotten Jimmy Ormond who plied his trade in these parts and also The Oval of course.

Notts had an easy target as Hoggard opened with a maiden. Hales (5) still looks out of sorts as edged the Leicestershire captain to slip. Wessels hit a couple of fours as Wayne White was expensive but departed for nine bowled by Hoggard, 29 for two in the fifth. Voges and anchor man Lumb added 31 in 23 balls before Voges was bowled by left armer Taylor for 21. Patel hit a bright and breezy 17 before holing out to long off as Henderson picked up a wicket. Taylor coming home had an innings of 4..444 as Notts got home by six wickets with Lumb carrying his bat for 25 not out, the highest score of the evening. Mullaney was named man of the match. Harder challengers await.

Wednesday Games

The Taunton Cidermen set something of a sterner test for the  Bears to chase at Taunton.
Somerset 191/6, South Africans Richard Levi 69, Albie Morkel 38, Craig Kieswetter 20 and Nick Compton 12 - 25 extras in innings too. Pick of the bowling was Chris Woakes 2/25 from a full compliment.

As it turned out, Bears never got into the chase after the loss of pinch-hitter Laurie Evans for 17, Varun Chopra did hang around for 37 but no one else did before the cause was lost. Over 15 went for 15 runs but by that stage the required rate was over 18. Bears eventually floundered on 128, 63 runs short of the home side, Steffan Piolet 26 not out, Max Waller 4/16, Alfonso Thomas 3/17

At the Oval, Surrey lurched to a total of 128/8 Ireland's Gary Wilson 33 and Lions' Jason Roy 22. Graham Napier 3/16

Eagles were also disappointing in the chase losing by 18 runs on 111/9. Gareth Batty 3/20

FoXes put the X in eXtras

X-rated stuff from the Foxes for their supporters.

Reigning T20 champions started their title defence by batting first against Outlaws at Grace Road having been put in by Adam Voges.

Cobb and Sarwan were first to "the plate" - Gurney pitched over 1 against his former employers.

After 12 overs Outlaws will be satisfied with the scoreboard.

Foxes 67/6 3 wickets for Dad05, Mullaney.

After 17.3 overs Outlaws will be very satisfied with the scoreboard.

Foxes all out 96 Mullaney 4/19, 2 wickets each for Pattinson, Patel and Voges.

Extras joint top score of 13; Pitiful is one of the eye-witness comments from Twitterland.

Foxes' lowest T20 score ever(?)

Notts made unnecessary hard work of the chase, probably looking for a good net-run rate as a result.

After 12 overs Outlaws were 82/4 but Michael Lumb was still there holding the innings together.

Outlaws 98/4 (13 overs)

Michael Lumb 25 not out
Adam Voges 21
Samit Patel 17
James Taylor 16 not out (6 balls)

Matthew Hoggard 2/25

Outlaws won by 6 wickets with 42 balls to spare
