Notts bat under lights.

On the second day of this total one-sided fixture, history was made, as for the first time in a Notts first-class fixture in England, the floodlights were ordered to be switched on, by umpires Grim Tim and Billy Taylor at 17:41.

On a cold generally grey day, the Loughborough students struggled to 148 all out scoring at just 2.33 runs per overs. Tavare was first to go caught at second slip off Phillips who obtained his maiden first class wicket for Notts. Wales minor counties player Rhodri Evans departed 16 runs later caught at short leg off Fletcher, the most impressive bowler of the day. Kent’s reserve stumper Sam Billings edged his first ball off Bulwell’s finest into the captain gloves, as the schoolboys were now 24 for three.

The injury prone Carter replaced Fletcher from the pavilion end and had Fred Daeche-Marshall (Middlesex 2nd XI) dropped by Michael Lumb at third slip. FDM added 52 with Nitesh Patel until he fell plumb leg before to White for 32.  Taylor was beaten by some turn from White to depart for one. On the stroke of lunch Devon Endersby top edged a hook off Fletcher as Read took a great catch running towards fine leg, 93 for 6.

Patel’s long vigil came to an end as he edged Phillips to first slip to depart for a patient 46.  Adam Soilleux’s lost his leg stump to the unstoppable Carter. Sturmer from Lewes in Sussex also edged to Hales at first slip as Fletcher picked up his fourth, 144 for nine. Riley was run out by Wessels for a stubborn 18 made off 90 balls. Fletcher finished with four for 21 and White and Phillips also proved economical. Andy Cater a tad expensive appears to the bowler to make way for the mercurial Adams.

Notts elected to waive the follow on for more batting practice, Hales was very much in one-day mode as he blasted a quick fire 48 with ten fours, before edging Sturmer into to the keeper’s gloves. Lumb looked comfortable and got to 44 before playing on to Endersby. Lumb and Jimmy Taylor had added 101 in 19 overs. Taylor on a king pair advanced to well made 61 off 89 balls as he saw Notts to the close with his captain who hit six and a four in the final over. Notts lead by a massive 563 as they closed on 183 for two. Rain is forecast from lunchtime today.
