Michael Lumb opening and making his return to Southampton soon went back to the pavilion with a duck.
Hales (33) and Wessels (18) made typical power-play progress but then the batting got bogged-down, as is the norm at the Armitage Shanks. Over 33 saw Voges and Taylor put their foot on the gas - 11 runs scored then over 34 had 23 belted off it.................................. the card doesn't record if those were batting power play overs or not.
However those overs were just the prelude to James Taylor going berserk.
James Taylor closed the innings with a career best 115 not out, 7 sixes and 7 fours - Outlaws 277/4, Samit Patel 66 and Adam Voges 32 not out.
HOWEVER
After 10 overs of the Hampshire innings, the home side were cruising 88/0.
Three wickets from Samit Patel and another from Steven Mullaney only stemmed the flow of runs slightly. 160/4 from 25 overs ..................... Hampshire well on target, Jimmy Adams 51, Michael Carberry 54
After 32 overs Hampshire were within shouting distance of their finishing line at 202/5, just needing 9.5 per over with big hitters Ervine and Mascarenhas at the crease.
Sean Ervine fell to a Carter catch off Franks at the beginning of the 35th over - over 10 per over needed; Mascarenhas the key man firing well.
With 3 overs left, 40 was required, 238/8 with Kabir Ali joining DM.
2 sixes from Dimitri Mascarenhas off the rusty Pattinson's 7th over (#38) meant that Hampshire needed 12 off each of the last two overs.
15 was required off the last over, Pattinson to bowl it (Franks had been an option if Read had chosen to use it) dot, single for DM, wicket, Kabir bowled, leg bye by Danny Briggs, wicket DM ct Wessels; Darren Pattinson 3/66 Outlaws win by 12 runs
