v Oxford MCCU at The Parks

Day 3

Typical cricket weather, fog, drizzle and bad light. Notts almost forced a victory thanks to a bowling burst from Andy Carter but the weather saved Oxford's day ultimately - the umpires taking the players off at 16:46 with the students nine down.

Earlier a Steven Mullaney 50 and a rapid fire 37 from Luke Fletcher had set-up a target of 311 for the "academics" but after Carter 4/7 had taken Notts to the brink, in Shahzad's absence, the drizzle came down with its partner in crime, bad light!

Looking at all the national scorecards, similar conditions must have been up and down the country - at Derby I noticed the lights were on as I travelled past along the A52 during the afternoon. - or has that been re-numbered too to Aaaa52?

Day 2

Firstly play was delayed then it was repeatedly interrupted by the elements through-out the first two sessions. As play progressed, wickets were picked-up by most of the Notts bowlers; the only resistance coming from Lloyd Paternott (50). Oxford 102 all out. 2 wickets each for Fletcher, Gurney, Shahzad and Mullaney. By the close Notts were 34/2 - 169 ahead.

Day 1

With interest on the World T20 Cup now waning as the England team drag them-sorry-selves back to Old Blighty; attention switches to the First Class preliminaries against the universities. Notts are playing one of the stronger squad of students and it was the students that probably will be the happier after day one.

At lunch: Steven Mullaney’s first First Class innings lasted 6 deliveries, departing for a duck. Both Samit Patel and Riki Wessels got to double figures before succumbing to the students’ bowling attack. At lunch opener Sam Kelsall  (50*) and Chris Read (20*) were  at the crease; with no more specialist batsmen to come. Notts 107/3

At tea: Tea saw Notts at 180/7 with both  Kelsall (57) and Read (47) out along with Sam Wood (6) and Luke Fletcher (9).

At the close: Shahzad (35) and Ball (31)  salvaged the county side's innings as it finished on 237. After 13 overs the students were 30/2, wickets for Fletcher and Gurney.
