Pre-season friendly v Northamptonshire 2015

Day Two

A day of squally showers and confusion for the Northamptonshire batters.

Kick-off was brought forward to 10.30, leaving overnight batsmen Newton and Wakely AWOL - retired out then un-retired out, given another bite of the cherry once they find their way to the ground.

Between rain breaks, Adam Rossington  helping himself to a run a ball fifty.

Peters followed Rossington's suit with a fifty but conditions were at times so poor, with a strong cross wind, that Nottinghamshire's (near) ever present commentator questioned the value of any practise being gathered.

In spite of the Gurdler's predictions to a call off of proceedings, Northants declared on 195/4 and gave Notts another turn in the middle.

Alex Hales after a flurry of boundaries, shouldered arms to Sanderson and was bowled. Hales' wicket was followed by Chris Read's, caught and bowled by George Bacon (Kimberley and former Notts Academy)

Riki Wessels retired on 55*, an innings containing 2 sixes. Sam Wood also after reaching his 50-.with 3 sixes.

When hands were shaken; Will Gidman 29* and Luke Wood 13 were at the crease. Notts 186/2

Gidman, talking (well) on the Notts website, said he was happy with what he'd personally got out of this contest, batting and bowling.

So over the two innings 498/3 by Nottinghamshire - that'll do as a first innings score in 90 overs.

Day One

With the Northants bowlers largely keeping their powder dry, it was a day for the Notts batsmen to get "a net" in the middle.

Steven Mullaney, Greg Smith, Samit Patel and James Taylor all helped themselves to unbeaten fifties before retiring. Will Gidman was the only Notts man to be dismissed (for 16 by Ben Sanderson) and Brett Hutton (24*) and Matt Carter (29*) remained not out after 60 overs. Notts 312/1 (5)

Northants reached 42/1, Isle of Kyle McCoetzer c Carter (M) b Hutton 19, before the hover covers had a test drive when the expected rain showed-up.
