DURHAM THE REWARD, BUT RAIN THE ONLY WINNER AT TRENT BRIDGE
Hampshire won the toss and inserted Notts with rain forecast for the early evening. The match was played on the same pitch as the Kent run fest. Notts rested Brett Hutton as Harry Gurney returned.
Hales and Wessels got Notts off to superb start adding 124 runs in 20 overs in sunny conditions. Both batsmen were matching each other shot for shot. Hales got to his half ton first sweeping Dawson for four. Hales was on 58 when he swept Danny Briggs but Sean Ervine took the catch on the deep square leg ropes. His innings contained six fours and two sixes off 56 balls. A typical Hales effort.
Dan Christian after his fast knock on Monday was promoted to three and got off to a brisk start. A total of 73 runs were added in nine overs for the second wicket when Riki Wessels was caught at long leg off Chris Wood for 81 off 90 balls with five fours. Christian raced to 50 in just 30 balls as the crowd were richly entertained. Dark clouds started to come over from the south west as Dan Christian was bowled by a full toss from Danny Briggs for a 48 ball 72 an innings which included five sixes and four fours. Light rain was falling as the two Taylor's added 20 when the umpires decided to come off as the drizzle turned to a steady rain. Notts stood at 256 for three off 39 overs. It did not take long for most of the crowd to drift away but umpires Illingworth and Baldwin waited until 2025 until finally calling off the game..
Notts take one point for the no result and win Group B, their reward a difficult home tie against Durham at TB next week.MAG
Confirmed that the Quarter-final against Durham will be on Tuesday 25th at 2pm...
