Samit Patel Nottinghamshire Career Averages including 2015

C/o MAG

Samit. Oh Samit. Oh infuriatingly frustrating Samit! MAG says he'd never drop Samit but I'm not that sure but it would certainly be a difficult call to make. Samit brings so much potential to the Notts eleven and can turn a match in the space of an hour; from a losing cause to a resounding victory. But, does he value his own wicket as much as the spectators do?

At times this season Samit has shown a lot of guts in his batting, reaching a hard earned ton, only to be out straight after reaching the landmark - frustrating everyone concerned, no doubt himself included.

With the ball, when his blood is up, Samit can be unplayable in one day cricket but in the championship at times he can be innocuous. A high point this term was in that injury plagued Worcestershire win where he bowled and bowled, giving the remaining quick bowlers a break, using up overs for little cost, edging towards a new ball, should it have been needed - a commendable effort.

Clearly Mick Newell agrees with MAG, as Samit was ever present in the LV 2013, 2014 and 2015 and he also got an England recall this autumn.

  1. Trevor Bayliss to review Jos Buttler's place and an earlier plan to play 3 spinners for the third test - door opening for Samit Patel? Stats show if you give Samit eleven overs in 2015, on average, he'll get you a wicket.

Could Buttler's omission mean Hales at 3 or Taylor at 3 if Samit doesn't get the nod? Moeen Ali "safe" as opener.

  2. Three Notts players in a Test eleven and one of them isn't Alex Hales.

Fingers crossed that Samit goes well.
