ESSEX CONFIRMED
Lancashire failed to pull off a miracle and so Essex are confirmed as champions.
Day 3
ESSEX CHAMPIONS ?
If, as does look likely, Lancashire fail to beat Somerset, Essex will be crowned County Champions for the first time this millennium.
Essex easily rolled over weak, under-performing Bears for a second time leaving Ashley Giles further surgery to perform on his squad, cutting and transplanting players ready for division two in 2018.
Day 2
Essex maintained their dominance over Warwickshire and with games elsewhere going their way, look to be on course to be Champions at the end of this round of matches if they beat Bears. As for Bears, they must win all their remaining games and then hope, but it is more than likely they'll be playing Leicestershire and Derbyshire in the CC2 next year.
Day 1
Essex arrived at Edgbaston as league leaders, facing Warwickshire rooted to the bottom of Division one.
The first day ended with Essex looking as through the title is for them to lose and Bears appear to be doomed to rebuild their squad, further in division two next season.
Was there too for Day 3. Essex bowled and fielded like true Champions, and it shows that when (if ?) Notts go up they are clearly going face a much harder standard in Div 1. Warwick supporters believe their T20 side has some young talent, but the Championship team are yesterdays' men. Speaking og which, Notts performance against Worcester worried me. It should not have been some after the Lord Mayor's show effort. It was the biggest game of the season, the chance to clinch promotion and be on the cusp of the Treble. Yet our fielding was static, the decision to play an extra batsman a huge mistake, and there incredibly was an atmosphere of defeatism. Hopefully Worcester taking over the top will shake and reignite Notts' passion. Cricket tends to punish the complacent or any team thinking they are bigger than they really are.
