Pursehouse's Trent Bridge Ashes Plans Blown Away

As much as the club will put a brave face and a positive spin on it, missing out on an Ashes Test in 2023 must be seen as a massive failure by CEO Lisa Purehouse and her bid team.

"As the world's third oldest Test match venue, it's incredibly important to us that we continue to stage a significant amount of Test cricket," said Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club chief executive Lisa Pursehouse.
"Of course, we would have very much liked to have staged an Ashes Test. Having hosted terrific matches here in 2013 and 2015, it would have been the icing on the cake."

CEO Lisa Pursehouse failed on local TV to put over a convincing case that any of the so called high profile fixtures awarded to Trent Bridge between 2020 and 2024 would compensate on missing out on an Ashes Test. Mick Newell, there assisting his partner, did little to hid what must be a huge disappointment for the Trent Bridge management, who have been left little option but go overboard with their backing of the ECB's T20 gamble, which will be hosted at Lord's, the Oval, Old Trafford, the Rose Bowl, Cardiff, Edgbaston, Headingley and TB.
Is an ODI against Ireland really "high profile"? After all, Notts were playing List A games against the Emerald country only a decade or so ago and on last season's form Notts would have made light work of them again. A novelty act fixture rather than an A Lister Celebrity draw. Some nice weather, at a weekend, and they could sell out as there's plenty of second generation Irish about in the East Midlands. But it ain't Australia!

4 Tests over the 5 summers.
Our Colin on EMT fed them leading question designed to give the pair the opportunity to promote the new competition, starting in 2020, which Mick gave his under whelming support to (he'll be sleeping in the spare room tonight). No teams, no names and no ideas! Nothing to enthuse about - he couldn't even fake his delight!
Trent Bridge will host the final of the perilously devalued One Day Cup, from 2020, when teams will be weakened, losing all their T20 big hitters and games will be played in some counties at second string venues.

  2. Difficult to understand the Ashes choices given England's dominance at TB. New T20 competition is a big risk for the ECB, less so for TB as 'just' a venue.

  3. Trent Bridge was never really likely to get an Ashes test in 2023. Unlike previous test match allocations where bids decided which were the lucky grounds This time it game down to a share of gates between the host ground and the ECB,Given Nottts have a relativly small capacity it's easy to see why the ECB opted for higher financial rewards.

  4. Not saying it's right but that's the system we are stuck with , Maybe at the next allocations it might change. But I would'nt hold your .breath ...

  5. The ECB have made it clear its about £££ and TB has the smallest capacity so loses out! TB needs to expand where it can if it wants Ashes in 2027

  6. Ms Pursehouse may be able to "suspend her allegiance to the club" others might see the circus as an unwelcome mid-season vacuum

  7. It was a decent achievement to get 4 Tests in 5 years, but apparently we were not even runnuers up to get an Ashes Test. According to "Cricinfo" it was a battle between Leeds and Southampton, who in the end were the biggest losers after unfairly treated Durham. The final of the, much devalued, 50 over competition feels like a sop to keep us from moaning. Some chance, moaning is something we will continue with !!
