Post James Pattinson, Championship Results 2017-18

Championship results since James Pattinson completed his contract at Notts

Peter Moores wants Notts' results to be judged on the performances over the past 18 months. However at the beginning of that period we had an overseas player, a bowler of some worth and impact, one that could win us matches, raised confidence, performance and morale of his team mates; but when his contract expired an overseas batsman was preferred to a bowler, so lets judge them on their results since that decision.

53% of games played ending in defeat

A good decision or not to go with overseas batsmen?

  1. Any overseas player should come up to the benchmark set by Patto, absolutely brilliant cricketer.

  2. Abosutely agree, in the 70s and 80s county cricket was full of this quality of overseas player, sadly now those days have gone forever.

  3. Patto was a winner, Results prove that, If you add to that his clear love of playing for the county then you get a mix few fellow overseas professionals can offer.

Would be great to see JP back at sometime in the future but realistically that is unlikely to happen whilst (a) he is involved with the Australian test team and (b)he stays injury free long enough to fulfill a contract.

  4. The DoC and PM HAD originally wanted an overseas bowler this year.........but then we failed to land our targets(and of course refused to bring in a dreaded Kolpak like Heino Kuhn, for example so had to change direction and we ended up with an overseas batsman , who was pretty average(in his defence the first two months of the season were extremely difficult conditions to bat. Players of the quality of Patto just do not play county cricket anymore and now you tend to end up with second stringers who will do a job but are not genuine match winning performers like JP

  5. The championship bowling attack has lacked teeth and/or nous since the first couple of months. Limited resources still needed to be rotated though, to avoid the tired finale, but look what we got. In defence if PC and JB were fit or MF could be relied upon then we might have avoided burning out HG and LF (who is never an opening bowler, never has been, never will be). You can blame circumstances / injuries but, the main problem has been down to recruitment over the past several years. Money wasted on Newell's misfits. You all know who I mean.
