Notts Injury Roll 2019

14/10/19

Jack Blatherwick is now recovering following surgery on what appears on Twitter to have been his left ankle region.

But Trent Bridge haven't mentioned this, being more concerned today about Weddings suppliers open days and the Imposter Rockets coach. That's two stories not one.
22/09/19

Ravi Ashwin has gone back to India early (injured?). Luke Fletcher is still carrying his football related injury and misses the last game of the season.

Liam Patterson-White returns after a slight hand injury.

02/09/19

It appears that Zak's sicknote has expired and so he is playing for the 2s at Lady Bay

28/08

Zak Chappell was missing the Notts physio table so much that he has cried off his loan spell at Gloucestershire with some injury or other, but the Gloucestershire website states that Notts recalled him - not that he has played or made a squad since returning

23/08

He must have signed his contract for Lancashire with a heavy fountain pen, 'cause Luke Wood misses today's game with a minor back injury.

12/08/19

A hastily arranged red ball 2nd XI two day friendly with Durham has given several of Notts' sick list to have a tentative run out at Lady Bay. Those incuded are Steven Mullaney, Jake Ball and Paul Coughlin.

Zak Chappell's absence from this game is explained by his loan spell at Bristol.
03/08/19

A new sick note has been filed this time by Jake Ball for back spasms. Paul Coughlin had a precautionary scan on his hamstrings as he sat out the third day of the SEC win at Lady Bay - hopefully no recurrence and it's Notts being overly cautious. There was a story that Zak sicknote Chappell had a shin splints issue but he was at Trent Bridge last night doing the prematch routines.

A different story of to why Jake Ball missed out against Bears (02/08) was posted by the club via their "All in" mockumentary.
Nottsview's source was a little closer to (Jake's) home.

29/07

Both Paul Coughlin and Zak Chappell were in the Second XI that beat Worcestershire 2s twice at New Road along with Ben Slater and Matt Carter.

28/07

Didn't play any cricket but took part in the pre-match footie before the Steelbacks and Derby games. Is there any truth in the remour that Zak Chappell has pick-up a drinks carrying injury?

16/07

Not surprisingly, Steven Mullaney has taken the opportunity to have minor corrective surgery on his dodgy knee putting him out of the opening salvo of Blast games.

10/07

Ben Duckett has been withdrawn from the England Lions squad due to his injury.

09/07
Following the defeat at Taunton, Peter Moores went through the catalogue of wows, "but wasn't making excuses".

Add to Joe Clarke's hamstring; Ben Duckett's tweaked hip-flexor and Liam Patterson-White's tonsillitis.

08/07

Chris Nash was struck on the helmet by Jamie Overton and has to sit out the remainder of the game in line with concussion protocols.

07/07

Joe Clarke has a strained hamstring. Steven Mullaney has a knee injury which restricts his bowling. Liam Patterson-White was struck down with an illness/high temperature  on day 1 of his debut.

08/06

The Post tell us that Paul Coughlin is expected to be fit for the T20 Blast in July

21/05

Luke Wood had to retire hurt, injured after being struck on the helmet batting for Northants against Sussex at Wantage Road

Showing signs of concussion next morning, Wood was substituted with Brett Hutton

16/05/19

Zak Chappell pulled-up lame on day 3 against Essex, Matt Carter completing his 4th over. Zak has bowled 15.2 overs so far for Notts without success.

Whom ever is responsible for conditioning, warming-up of players etc, is doing a pretty poor job so far.

I'd expect Luke Wood to return early from Wantage Road again for the trip to the Holiday Isle.

News on Patto from the Trent Bridge Website

James Pattinson was seen turning his arm over before the third day’s play at Chelmsford but Moores conceded that the Australian isn’t quite ready for a first team return.
“Jimmy is not a million miles off. I don’t think he’ll make it for the Isle of Wight. It was a small side strain and you’ve got to be careful with them. He’s come through a sort-of rehab and is now getting his bowling fitness back.

“He should be bowling fit in a week or so. We have a break after the Isle of Wight, so when we come back to cricket after then he’ll be back fully fit with us.”

13/05/19

The list is growing again...

Paul Coughlin - hamstring
James Pattinson - "side"
Harry Gurney - ?

Add to that Gurney and Hales' elected absence from red ball

10/05/19

Matt Davies in the Post has revealed that James Pattinson picked-up a side injury against Northants on Monday. The same article confirms what we all saw with Ben Slater returning in the 2s this week, that he is available for selection on Sunday.

Ben Ducket tore the webbing on one hand also during the Northants game, didn't field but batted (for 1 ball) - so might be a minor doubt.

Cogger's hamstring injury could take months to heal...
01/0519
Paul Coughlin's finger has healed but now, it appears, he has pulled a hamstring.

26/04/19

It has been confirmed that Paul Coughlin has broken a finger (on his non-bowling hand), hence he bowled for the 2s but could not bat.

In form Ben Slater "tweaked a quad" in the pre-match warm-up (hopefully not the game of footie, surely) ahead of the Foxes game.

23/04/19

Paul Coughlin had a game with the Seconds  at Yorks Sports Club against a fairly strong Yorkshire XI. Notts 2s were trouced by 264 runs. Yorkshire had posted 402/6 Will Fraine making 92, Harry Brook 144.

Paul Coughlin bowled a full complement of overs 10-0-64-2 but did not bat. Chris Nash scored 13.

18/04/19
NottsCCC state:

"Alex Hales has made himself unavailable for selection for personal reasons and no timetable has been set for his return to action."

Surely the timetable for his return would be the fixtures, counting down to his scheduled England selection.

Paul Coughlin remains absent with his finger injury.

10/04/19
As Zak Chappell makes his first squad, Paul Coughlin misses out with a finger injury.

01/04/19

Luke Fletcher failed to appear on the second day at Cambridge, the scorecard recording him as "absent hurt".

But never fear, Fletch has gone home to be with his other-half as she gives birth to a sibling for young Freddie.

31/03/19

The first class season kicks-off with a game at Cambridge; the announced squad does not include Matt Carter, who is expected to be out for at least a couple more weeks, and Zak Chappell who rumoured to have a "slight niggle". Worryingly, Notts aren't mentioning this niggle - read what you will into that but it's not usually a good sign.

18/.3/19

Matt Carter has returned back o the UK to see a specialist for a hip injury.

17/03/19

Jake Ball slipped whilst bowling against Titans and was withdrawn as "precaution" - Paul Franks.

Skipper, Steven Mullaney has picked-up a slight groin strain in South Africa amd misses the 50 over game against Titans Invitationals at Cornwall Hil College, Pretoria

20/01/19

Tom Moores has picked-up a leg injury with England Lions out in Thiruvananthapuram, India. Tom is expected to be sidelined for 2 to 3 weeks.

  1. Perhaps they need to play more football!!!

  2. If Alex can't play for Notts then he most certainly can't and shouldn't play for England. Despite my long-standing criticisms of him I go back several Seasons to remember what I and others believed to be a hugely prodigious talent but somewhere along the way something went wrong. Whether he was not managed properly or whether he has some some inner'demons' I know not but I still wish him well and hope that whatever it is he can be helped to overcome it.

  3. Can't see anything about Alex not being available on either Nottss CCC Site or Evening Post. Any more details please?

    1. It's hidden at the end of the usual spiel about Luke Fletcher and starting a new competition blah blah

Well possible rumours that Baz may be experiencing relationship/domestic problems, so best wishes to him if that's the case as we all know what an awful situation that can be for anyone, but, it's so disappointing to be shorn of one of the very best white ball players in world cricket at the start of a competition Notts can win

    3. All over the Daily Mail in March. Reports that he's been "dumped" by his girlfriend Danni Gisbourne. And she just happens to be the sister of Jake Ball's missus so draw yourself a conclusion to that.

    4. Let's wait for the club to make a (proper)statement to explain this sordid car wreck before condemning anyone further.

  4. With 'no timetable' set for Hales return one can only assume that he is in some serious personal crisis and all that we can do is wish him well. Top sportsmen experience a range of pressures that most of us can not even imagine - the dangers are that often we as supporters build them up but, equally, are just as quick to knock them down again. On a personal level though I don't think that many of our criticisms are personal (and Mick Newell gave an excellent radio interview recently regarding taking criticisms too personally and too much to heart when often the best thing is to stand back and even ignore a lot of them!)but out of our passion to see our Teams do better. Good luck and take care Alex.

    1. How is 21 days not a timescale, if not a timetable?

We'll eventually find out what is really going-on, sooner or later.

  5. Chris Nash out for at least 7 days after Somerset Match when he was hit on the helmet and had to be taken to hospital - it was a really nasty hit that he took so let's hope that he makes a complete recovery.

  6. Chappell now with Gloucestershire on Loan for the rest of the T20 - he got a wicket this evening but was their most expensive Bowler. Let's hope that the Loan period works out well for him.

    1. He bowled significantly in powerplay overs 2 and 5 and at the death over 18. His mid innings over was his most economical. His overs cost 13, 8, 7 and 11 and he removed James Vince. Collectively Hampshire hit him for 4x4 1x6

  7. Still no sign of Coughlin being able to play - doubt he will be in the Side for Scarborough. Seeing how badly Nash and Slater played for the 2nd 11's yesterday neither should they be included. I am extremely apprehensive how Notts are going to get out of their current poor form - to repeat the old mantra 'there really is something terribly wrong' within the Club.
