Leicestershire Foxes Vitality T20 Blast at Trent Bridge Loss

CARTEL SHOW INABILITY TO DEVIATE FROM THE PLAN

AS LILLEY PULLS OFF SHOCK WIN FOR FOXES

Leicestershire without a win or overseas players pulled off a shock 21 run in at Trent Bridge today against a lacklustre Notts outfit. Rain delayed the start until 1645 with the contest truncated to an 11 over affair. Notts won the toss and inserted Leicester. Fletcher and Wood replaced Libby and Carter from last night's team line up at Derby. Notts bowled poorly the combined analysis for Fletcher, Ball and Gurney being 6-0-85-1. Man of the match Arron Lilley made a career best 66 off 30 balls (10x4,2x6) to lead the charge. Leicester 125 for three off 11 overs; an over par score. Notts facing a stiff challenge never really got going with the bat with their batsmen struggling to time the ball on the same strip as used for the Northants game three days previously. The Leicester innings contained 16 fours and three sixes whereas the Notts innings just five fours and six sixes showing where the game was won and lost. The only positive for Notts was Tom Moores finally finding some form with the bat with an unbeaten 44 off 19 balls (5x6, 1x4), but this was a bad defeat against a team likely to stay at the bottom of the pile.

Mark Cosgrove drove Wood's first ball for four. Harry Swindells departed for a golden duck, 5 for one. Lilley edged his first ball for four. Ten off the opening over. Arron Lilley hit three successive boundaries off Imad Wasim, 22 for one after two overs. Gurney went for 15 including three boundaries for Cosgrove. Jake Ball was hit for successive fours by Lilley, 48 for one off 4 overs. Fletcher was hit four and six by Lilley, 15 off his solitary over. Patel became the sixth bowler in the sixth over conceding seven. Lilley got to his 50 in 22 balls with a top edged six off Jake Ball. Lilley then hit three successive fours off Ball, 19 off the over. Lilley top edged a leg side swipe off Imad, Moores taking the catch. Lilley a T20 best of 66, 91 for two off 7.3 overs. Ackermann hit Gurney for six over long on, 108 for two off nine overs. Patel conceded just four from the penultimate over but then Gurney went for 13 off the last over. Ackermann (18) was caught at wide long on by Hales off Gurney. A single off the last ball saw Leicester to 125 for three off 11 overs. Cosgrove 37 not out off 23 balls (5x4). Samit Patel the best bowler with 2-0-11-0/.

Hales cover drove Klein's first ball for four. Klein bowling a wide and a no ball conceding 13 in the opening over. Hales edged Griffiths for four. Duckett was bowled attempting a slog sweep off Griffiths, the left hander out for a run a ball six, 20 for one after two overs. Hales mistimed Davis and was caught at deep mid on by Klein for 10, 20 for two. Notts scoring two off the third over. Christian hit Parkinson's first ball through the covers for four, but only five runs came off the remaining balls of the fourth over. Clarke hit Lilley for six over long off. Notts 41 for two off five overs. Clarke (14) was caught behind playing a ramp shot against Griffiths, 43 for three. Five off the over, Notts well behind the asking rate. Moores hit Davis for a straight six and a six over mid wicket in the seventh over, Notts 60 for three after seven overs. Christian was caught at long on by Klein off Parkinson for 18, 68 for four. Patel was caught on the extra cover boundary by for two by Ali off Lilley, 71 for five. Moores hit Griffiths for a leg side six, 10 off the tenth over. Imad was caught behind off Klein for three, 89 for six. Moores hit Klein for a leg and off side sixes in the last over as Notts closed on 104 for 6 with Wood 1 not out. Griffiths was the pick of the Leicester bowlers with 3-0-22-2.

Leicester were by far the better on the day out matching Notts in all three departments of the game and fully deserved their win. Notts had lost a game which should been a “home banker”. Notts need to win at least five of the last nine games to qualify for the knockout phases which will not be easy. The form of Hales in particular is crucial. One gets the feeling if he fails the batting will fail.MAG

  1. Probably best to stay at home with 80-90% Risk of Rain.

  2. Another embarrassing defeat.

But the committee thinks that everything is fine.

    A clearout is needed.

    1. No that is not the case. And once again we will discuss the situation at the next Committee meeting with the Chief Executive and the Director of cricket.

    2. BUT remember that the Chief Exec and the DoC are NOT members of the Committee - YOU as THE COMMITTEE have FULL RESPONSIBILITY to sort this mess out - kicking the 'can' down the road will not resolve it. As Members we want to hear something - you are OUR COMMITTEE so what are you doing? Again today there was presuure to call an EGM - rest assured that if nothing changes then that is exactly what we will do and it may well be a vote of NO CONFIDENCE IN THE COMMITTEE - which, if passed, we would expect would result in you all resigning - good and bad alike and new Elections being held.

  3. Thanks for your reply, unknown.

Unfortunately the time for discussion has long since passed. What we need is action. I wonder if you can ask the chief exec and doc the following questions from me.

    1. Why are our players, who are excellent on paper and when they played for other teams before arriving at trent bridge, underperforming so spectacularly?

    2. Why have players got worse whilst under the current regime?

    3. How can the signing of joe clarke show that we have moral responsibilities to the good people of Nottinghamshire.

The fact for the committee is simple, on paper, there is a massive gulf between Notts and Leicestershire, but once again we were shown to be lacking.

Please get on and do something about it.

Ive heard the commitee like a bit of background music on at their meetings. What about The Tremeloes Silence is Golden next time? Heared earlier we are interested in Steve Davies so perhaps Tom Moores is to play white ball only.Certainly more suited to it he was the only Notts batter to find his timing on that surface and played really well. PS Anyone know whats happened to Jake Ball?

  5. Poor batting from Ducket, Hales, Clarke and poor bowling from Gurney - why he was used for the last Over after having been very expensive in his previous 2 goodness knows. As for Jake Ball I think that something happened when he was called up by England and not treated very well. Time now to try out Budinger for his batting and Patterson-White for his bowling (and hope that his batting comes good). Who is the 'Ramp Shot' Coach? - time and time again we look stupid playing it. At least if it had rained we'd have got a Point!

Yes, completely agree Sir Philip, it's a very high risk shot and if you're as good as Jos Buttler then that's fine. Usual good report MAGs saw it exactly as you state sitting behind you today. Got some stick, quite nasty really, from some drunken Foxes fans leaving the ground(it's pretty obvious I'm a Notts fan I would suggest!!!!!) but although it's water under the bridge it's a disturbing element that's coming into 20 cricket. Walk around Grace Rd for a red baller and the oppo fans are interested in a proper discussion not just hurling expletives at you from the safety of 5 or 6 lads on a day out on the pop. More worrying, there were some children who were genuinely shocked and frightened by this loutish behaviour. It is summat we must stop from entering our game, it's not football after all..........

  7. A pity that OUR STEWARDS are more interested in stopping US MEMBERS entering OUR PAVILION at the end of play - disgraceful that the whole Pavilion area is out of bounds to us - who brought in that Rule and why? We Members are well-behaved and respectful so what is happening - another example that we are not really wanted?

  8. In T20 you are going to have some defeats. But as you say this was a thrashing from a very ordinary team. There is no excuse for professional bowlers to fail to bowl line and length. The one exception being Samit, who did just that. Fielding is lethargic to the point of dozy. Their top scorer hit 6 boundaries slightly to the on of straight. Yet it was only once he had 60 odd that we brought deep mid on straighter. Lose sometimes, but if we do the basics it will happen less often. It was a fair result, but much of our woes are self inflicted

    1. In T20 an individual can have an extra-ordinary game and win a match on their own. Reduce the number of overs further and you make this scenario even more likely. Arron Lilley swung the bat at everything and it came off for him on the day, yes he was lucky but as Dellboy says "he who dares ..."

  9. What a shame that some away teams bring their lager louts with them to Trent Bridge and can spoil the atmosphere . I remember the time when it was considered unsafe and unwise to take youngsters to the City ground because of threatening behavior .
Its a pity that faithful Notts fans like Stonewall may have to re-consider wearing obvious home team sporting clothing because away fans may take exception .
But do Trent Bridge have to take some responsibility for poor conduct by fans of both sides . The whole T20 set up revolves around selling as much alcohol as is possible in the shortest possible time span . The number of outlets selling beer/lager/wine /cider is amazing .There appears to be one every twenty yards . Perhaps if there were fewer alcohol selling points the queues would be much longer and thus the heavy drinking types would not be able to buy and consume as much ,thus presumably helping control drunken antics ?
Yesterday upon entering the gate opposite the Rad road fish n chip shop the first thing I saw was half a dozen chanting Leicester fans obviously half inebriated coming towards me and my companion . Its not want you want at a cricket ground . I just wonder if increasing problems with certain fans is a direct result of Notts "drink as much as you can " policy ?
This could get even worse with the eagerly awaited (only joking!) looming 100 Ball competition . Lord knows what sort of fans its going to attract ?
Reference yesterdays 11 overs a side slog . Considering the weather ,before and after the game ,it was amazing they got all 22 overs in .
Leicester must have been long odds against to beat Notts yesterday . Our side is packed with power sloggers and its amazing that we lost . But those sort of games depend so much upon luck on the day . You could play the same match ten times and get wildly different results -its just the nature of the game .
But we should have won it all the same .
Have the "SILENT " Committee been gagged ? Isnt it time the Nottm Evening Post made an issue of the lack of inactivity at the Club at the moment regarding possible personnel changes . All sorts of rumours are circulating amongst the Members . Its about time some sort of statement was issued by the Club to clarify the current unsatisfactory situation ! ?

  10. At the expense of over-blogging (apologies if some are getting fed up with me) BUT when the Club clearly 'employ' a certain Media personality and the Radio Nottingham Commentator clearly enjoys a 'cosy' relationship with the Club and staff why would we expect impartial, objective and probing journalism?

    1. Good point, when the Evening Post man expressed legitimate concerns of us all, his job to do that, he got excluded from the Forum

  11. Yes it was a ludicrous decision at the Members question and answer session on July 1 st to exclude the Evening Post reporter .I know it was for Members only to attend the meeting ( or were ordinary everyday spectators allowed in ?)but what on earth could be said that should not have been reported to a wider audience viz.the Evening Post readership .
Dont worry about over blogging Philip. Keep hammering away - it can only do good surely .
The true supporters of Notts CCC deserve a true and proper update of what is happening at the Club . This will help to stop all the wild rumours currently circulating around the ground . You hear it all the time and everyone I speak to is fed up and very concerned . A couple of wham-bam T20 victories in front of vociferous crowd is not going to change the fundamentals .
We need some clarity of which direction the club is going in .
