Tosses Return and other Rule Changes

There's been a few tweaks to the rules for 2020 confirmed today by the ECB, on top of The Hundred rules and regulations.

The Championship sees the toss return at the start of every game.

It is hoped that changes to the seam of the Dukes ball used in 2019, as well as the prospect of tougher pitch penalties, will encourage a better balance between bat and ball - although the board has not ruled out the use of uncontested tosses in future. There are currently no plans to use the Kookaburra ball in Championship cricket, although a white Dukes could be tested in the 50-over competition. [ESPN]

There will be minimum loan period of 21 days for county to county player loans

Where overs remain at the cut off time, from 2020, instead of six penalty runs there will be one fewer fielder outside the 30 yard circle for the remainder of the innings.

No Hundred drafted player will be allowed to play in the group stages of the 50 over competition.

Some of the announced playing conditions for The Hundred include:

  • 25 balls per side minimum to constitute a game
  • Fielding sides can have a 2 minutes and 30 second strategic (advert) break at any point after the initial 25 balls have been bowled
  • Incoming new batsmen will take strike of a next ball following a wicket (unless it's a change of ends - otherwise known as overs), even if batsmen have crossed
  • Innings are anticipated to last for 65 minutes each

  1. I am beginning to get sickened by cricket tbh. Joining Notts next Summer and it is a sort of let's see what happens year. But after that 50/50 whether I walk away with memories of the game I love rather than suffer what it is becoming. Every one will I am sure make their own minds up . If a shop insulted you, would we carry in shopping there ? It is love with cricket, but also a financial outlay, for what now ?

    1. I think quite a few of us feel the same way Rich. We think it's bad now. Imagine 10 or 20 years down the line? The halcyon days have certainly gone forever that's for sure.Unlike Footy, however, the close season is so long when April eventually comes round we are so desperate for the new season the vast majority will just put up with things certainly for the time being, I suspect. The players, of course, don't share these views as they are now earning vast sums and white ball specialists like dear old Harold and Baz(Hales) having much less workloads.Even BIG Fletch a 100percenter and Notts through and through said he would do exactly the same if he had the options the other two have had.

  2. So it appears the Hundred drafted players can return for RL50 knock-outs? So could be almost totally different sides. Also who do we think may keep wicket for Notts in the RL50 group stage? Budinger? But he's listed on Wikipedia as an 'occasional wicketkeeper'. Or someone from the seconds - Shafique or Potticary?

    1. I would say Budinger ahead of the others by some distance. Is Tom Moore's listed as someone who keeps like hes an occasional keeper?

  3. I wonder what percentage of "FANS" who attend the 100 Ball Comp will have any idea about all the convaluted rules and regulations ?
I think I have already given up on it - before a single ball has been bowled .
The pricing structure will be interesting when details are released . Will it be designed to undercut most Counties Blast T20 ticket prices ?
