Poor old Northants. They did have Dennis Brookes who regularly got 2,000 runs in a season and the wonderfully named Nobby Clarke , who was a pal of Harold Larwood and Bill Voce, but nowhere near as quick !

He continued with success after the War when he was sitting in the pavilion with skipper Freddie Brown and 3 Yorkies during a rain dealt as the 2 counties played each other. The 3 Yorkies went back to their changing room and Dennis said "Do Yorkies ever shut up ?" They both burst out laughing as Dennis was one, as I am!
