Kent’s Jordan Cox has been excluded from the Club’s next Bob Willis Trophy match against Middlesex starting on Saturday 15 August following a breach of the team’s COVID-19 protocols yesterday evening, after leaving the ground.
Cox agreed to a request for a photograph to be taken with young fans which breached social distancing protocols.
He will now commence a period of self-isolation and will have to test negative before he is able to re-join the squad.
“I am very sorry that this has happened,” said Cox. “I fully understand the consequences, and I want to apologise to everyone.
“I’m gutted to be missing the next match and feel like I have let the team down.”
Director of Cricket, Paul Downton, said: “It is unfortunate for Jordan that on the back of an outstanding performance, our team medical protocols were breached.
“We take these protocols very seriously and Jordan has no choice but to go into self-isolation.”
As Durham prepare to host Yorkshire at Emirates Riverside in the Bob Willis Trophy this weekend, we wanted to provide an update on the current situation.
Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we won’t be able to welcome members and supporters back to the ground at this present time. The current guidelines and restrictions in place mean the match has to be played behind closed doors.
However, we are hopeful that Emirates Riverside could be selected as a test venue for spectators in time for our game against Lancashire on Saturday 8 August. This is an ongoing situation and we hope to have news on future fixtures soon.
Following changes to restrictions in Leicester, our fixture against Leicestershire starting on Saturday 15 August, will now be played at The Fischer County Ground.
On the field, the club can confirm that Farhaan Behardien will be available for Durham this season. The South African’s arrival, along with other overseas players across the country, has been delayed due to visa delays caused by the current circumstances. However, we hope to see him in a Durham shirt in the not to distant future.
Unfortunately, due to the current situation, Cameron Bancroft won’t be playing for Durham this season. An agreement has been made for the Australia to stay at home for the remainder of the domestic summer in England. We do hope to see Bancroft in a Durham shirt in the future and wish him all the best for the Australian season.
Fixtures for the 2020 Vitality Blast are expected to be released next week. We are hopeful that spectators will be allowed to attend these games and hospitality packages will also be available.
Durham Cricket Fixtures updated:
1-4 August v Yorkshire County Cricket Club – Emirates Riverside
8-11 August v Lancashire County Cricket Club – Emirates Riverside
15-18 August v Leicestershire County Cricket Club- The Fischer County Ground
22-25 August v Derbyshire County Cricket Club- Emirates Riverside
6-9 September v Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club – Trent Bridge
4 home games would have been greedy!
Almost seems confusion should have it's own web site
ReplyDeleteIf Durham are to become a testing ground, good for them. But their optimism on The Blast seems to be at odds with Government / DCMS recent statements.
I wonder which counties have applied to be testing grounds for spectators, and which have not !

ReplyDeleteagree with headline 'the world's gone mad'. This country has forgotten 'innocent until proven guilty'. Unless there is any evidence Cox has Covid, he should be seen as innocent of having it - and these restrictions and pettiness are getting most irksome.
