Brilliantly done - thanks MAG
ReplyDeleteThe stats dont lie!
While we should focus on the positives, Carter was a bit disappointing this year - needs a strong year next year
ReplyDeleteCarter suffered because of Imad's presence IMHO. But credit to Jooba that he kept his place.
Deleteagree - and being played in a different role this year. Last year he opened bowling even with Imad in the side
DeleteInteresting reading and we can now all deduce that Baz(Hales) did not have a disaster competition after all. Granted, he may not have scored the amount of runs he would expect of himself but his strike rate is exceptional. This is very important in 20(or even less) over games as scoring runs in the power play overs is so important as often teams can be squeezed when the pace off and death specialists come to the party after the first six. A lot of Notts gameplay is going hard in the fielding restrictions and Hales clearly contributed to this plan significantly. What he was unable to do, obviously, was play the one or two longer innings that he would normally manage to do. His top score of 49 off hardly any, however, was exhilarating and spectacular and an innings that is not seen very often even in these shorter formats. I accept the points made about facing spin. Anyone watching on dish tv would have seem two brilliant, similar, deliveries that resulted in his dismissal when seeming set in the last few games. I stand to be corrected, but I believe from memory he is still the only England player to score a t20 hundred on the sub continent against Sri Lanka so I would suggest he doesn't normally struggle against spin bowling
ReplyDeleteBaz has still managed to put the fear of the devil into oppositions this season just on past reputation. His strike rate remains rather good, even over a lean summer, but in short season hindsight would suggest he needed some warm-up games somewhere/somehow. Notts supporters would rather he played in the Bob a Job Trophy and got a taste for real cricket again.
DeleteImmensely pleasingly everyone contributed through the campaign (unless you don't think 29 off 15 balls in an 11 over semi final or 44 off 16 balls or his 49 top score in a winning performance or his overall strike rate and some good catching represents a contribution, even if short of his potential - thanks for your post SJ you have it exactly) and among many positives in the 2020 season and win, for me the most positive thing about the season is that despite some mediocre performances and worse results in the first class we looked like a team again in a way we didn't last year. It shouldn't be much to ask but we didn't have it last year so let's hope we can build on it.
ReplyDeleteMany congratulations to the ECB for this season and to all players and staff (especially the touring sides) who have contributed to the tests the one day internationals the Bob Willis Trophy and the 2020. Extraordinary achievements in the circumstances. And of course congratulations on winning one of only two trophies on offer and in such style on Sunday. Come on Notts.
Some good, thoughtful postings on the Alex Hales situation.
ReplyDeleteIts been the strangest cricket season anyone has ever witnessed. Very unsettling for the Players and Staff of all the 18 Counties plus the long suffering supporters who even now cant believe they were not allowed to see a single ball bowled (live)
Thank you, Notts for the much improved live stream and also a word for the improved Bracegirdle and Co ball by ball commentaries . Its not easy to commentate for over 6 hours a day stretching to 4 days.
Thanks for the stats. Baz’s 11 catches should also be noted. All of them good, many of them vital and a lot of them on the rope that more vertically challenged teammates who of had trouble reaching..that said , Ben duckett with 6 puts paid to that theory.
ReplyDeleteYes -Alex H is a safe pairof hands on the boundary.
ReplyDeleteDid he drop any this campaign? I cant think of any- but then again I have reached the age where yesterday is a distant memory.
Upon reflection perhaps some of us on here have been too critical of Hales contrubution this season . S. J. rightly points out that he only scored 200 odd runs but it was the manner in which he got them that is all important.
I think the problem with Alex is that we know what he can do and we are frustrated when he doesnt deliver the goods. A flying start to a Blast 20innings is all important. I suppose 30 runs scored in 15 balls is better than 45 runs scored in 50 balls - especially when chasing a 180+ target.
But with so many big hitters in the Notts 20/20 team we are now not so reliant on Hales getting a big score.
