Outlaws Bashing About - Big

or not...

10/12

Dan Christian, captain supreme when in Europe, bagged a wicket with his first ball in the Sixers defeat to Hurricanes. DC 3/36 10 runs from 8

12/12

Alex Hales who ran out of tournament in the summer, finding form but not the big score, scored 46 runs in 41 balls in Thunder's defeat to Stars. 41 balls is precisely one third of the balls faced by Hales in the entire Blast tournament 2020.

Joe Clarke kept the Outlaws' losing sequence going, scoring 10(6) in Scorchers defeat to Renegades.

13/12

The first victory for an Outlaw. Sixers beating Renegades Dan Christian, not bowling and only facing three deliveries, scoring 11 runs

14/12

First ball duck for Hales in his Thunder side's win over Heat.

16/12

A 16 ball 34 for Joe Clarke (3 6s and 1 4) in the rained-off Scorchers and Stars game

20/12

Dan Christian gave Sixers some much needed impetus with a 15 ball 50 (5 sixes and 4 fours) - he was out on the 16th ball. That impetus was effectively the difference between the teams as Sixers were victorious by 38 runs over the Strikers.

22/12

Alex Hales (Thunder) ran out Joe Clarke (Scorcher) for a duck. Hales, however managed to trump that duck with a golden duck of his own in a lame duck game for Outlaws.

26/12

Alex Hales 35(21) and two catches for Thunder in a crushing 129 run win against Renegades. JAG informs us that, "Wasim made his debut today for Melbourne Renegades v Alex Hales's Sydney Thunder. He wore the unusual number 4 rather than his Notts and Pakistan number of 9, as Shaun Marsh is No 9 for the Renegades."

Dan Christian (14 from 9) was again on the winning side Sixers v Stars

28/12

JAG: Today Perth Scorchers got thrashed despite their two new overseas players leaving quarantine and making their seasonal debut.

Perth's three overseas players are now Colin Munro (NZ) not been doing well so far, and the recently arrived Liam Livingstone & Jason Roy. Livingstone played for them last year.

I assume that means that Joe Clarke's three game cameo and time in the bash for this season is over. That has not been confirmed.

I do not think they carry spare imports.

29/12

Imad Wasim managed a golden duck for Renegades against Dan Christian's (2-19) Sixers With the ball, Wasim fared much better 4-0-20-2, bagging the prize wicket of DC (8) in the chase. Sixers on the game by 2 wickets with a ball to spare.

JAG:Jake Ball was sitting with Dan Christian in the Sydney Sixes dugout during their match with Melbourne Renegades today.

Jake is due to debut for Sydney Sixers on Saturday replacing West Indian Jason Holder.

Meanwhile Alex Hales clouted a 29 ball 71 (8 fours, 5 sixes) for Thunder against Stars. Stars could hardly manage a twinkle in reply, chasing 220, they were extinguished for 144 off 119 balls.

Happy New Year

01/01 Another explosive innings from Alex Hales 45 (19) 7 fours and 2 sixes for Thunder against Renegades. Imad Wasim conceded 4 fours to Hales off his first over. In a rain affected game, Thunder were ahead of their already DLS adjusted target, when more rain curtailed the match.

02/01

Defeat for DC and Jackson Bird's Sixers against Heat. DC 2/35 JB 1/26

03/01

Jake Ball playing for DC's Sixers was at the wrong end of a death overs mauling. 2-0-7-0 swiftly became 4-0-42-1 for the Notts' lad. DC escaped with 4-0-22-1.

In spite of this boost to Striker's, a target of 151 wasn't ever going to trouble the Sixers who won by 7 wickets with 12 balls to spare.

JAG: Today Imad was not allowed to play for Melbourne Renegades in Perth due to the very strict Covid quarantine rules, which forces some players out

similar rules occurred earlier in the week in Queensland, which kept three players out, including Adelaide captain Alex Carey.

Jake Ball has to wear shirt no 24 as Sydney Sixers have a non playing No 28, Gurinder Sandhu

Ex Outlaw James Pattinson is stuck inside the test match bio-secure bubble, so he is not playing in the Test Match

and not allowed to play in the Bash for the Melbourne Renegades having played for Brisbane Heat last year.

Although Jake Ball played today he was not picked yesterday when his place went to ex outlaw Jackson Bird.

05/01

Imad Wasim was perhaps stand-out performer in a, despite of, weak showing by Renegades against Strikers, losing by 60 runs. Wasim 3-0-13-2

06/01

Daniel Christian fail with the bat today, being one of 4 Sydney Ducks; as a consequence Sixers failed in the chase of 184 only making half that number. Earlier Scorchers had taken 35 runs and 43 runs off DC and Jake Ball's allocations.

07/01

A more sedate 21 (19) from Alex Hales but Thunder win again, this time against Hurricanes.

08/01

4-0-28-1 for Imad Wasim as Renegades win just their second game of this season's Bash.

09/01

Alex Hales scored just 5 as Thunder lost to Scorchers by 16 runs.

10/01

Whoopee it's the PSL draft today but the decisions on Hales and Wasim have already been taken: Alex moves to Islamabad United whilst Wasim remains at Karachi Kings.

Jake Ball again took some stick but against Heat he bagged 3 wickets too in his 2 overs 3/25 (a career best). DC 1/34 from 3 and Jackson Bird 4-0-22-2. In a tight finish it was Dan Christian that won the game for Sixers with 5 maximums (more than the rest of the two teams combined) and taking a 4 off the last ball. DC 61*(38), Sixers won by 3 wickets.

For those needing to know; Joe Clarke and Dan Christian will join Imad Wasim at Karachi Kings and Samit Patel will return to Lahore Qalandars for this year's PSL.

13/01

In the Sydney derby, Alex Hales got Thunder off to flyer with a 29 ball 50, but spinner O'Keefe begged the innings back. Jake Ball again received some punishment, 3-0-42-1 but Thunder, more like Slumber, posted 166 before rain arrived at the interval. Chasing a revised target, Dan Christian was at the crease at the climax of the innings scoring 15*(5) as the Sixers won again.

14/01

Imad Wasim 4-0-28-1 was on the losing side again as Renegades went down to Heat.

Elsewhere in the first test at Galle, on day 1 Stuart Broad 9-3-20-3 helped hurry out Sri Lanka for a meagre 135 in 46.1 overs

16/01

On day three of the test, Stuart scored 11* as England posted a massive lead.

Jake Ball 2/33 and DC 2/22 both with full compliments against Scorchers. Sixers won again by 7 wickets with 7 balls to spare. DC 7*(4)

17/01

Imad Wasim made 15 (14) for whipping boys Renegades; bowled out for 150 in the Melbourne derby. Stars won by 6 wickets. Wasim wicketless

Stuart Broad 17-11-14-0 as England close-in on victory

18/01 Alex Hales 29 (23) in defeat

20/01

Imad Wasim 4-0-24-1 in Renegades' 4 wicket victory over Stars in the Melbourne reverse derby

22/01

Alex Hales in the Sydney derby, played at Adelaide, bashed-big with 9 fours and 8 sixes for Thunder, scoring 110 (56) in a total of 232, a Big Bash record. DC hemorrhaged 48 runs from 3 overs in a game where Jake Ball was omitted from the Sixers' eleven.

In pursuit, not even Dan Christian could drag the Sixers close, DC closing on 21*(16) and Sixers 48 runs short of their target.

23/01

Renegades got back to losing ways with defeat to Heat, Wasim 4-0-30-1 and 13 (9)

24/01

No heroics from Hales today, recording 10 (9) for Thunder who lost to his former BB team, Strikers by 6 runs, again at at Adelaide.

It was all set up for Dan Christian to finish the game off for Sixers, 8 overs at ten-ish but unfortunately he was bowled first ball. Sixers lost by 7 runs to Hurricanes. Earlier, Jake Ball, reinstated, 2/44 and DC 1/23.

25/01

In a reduced overs affair, Alex Hales led the way with 63*(39) 4 sixes, 4 four to secure a 9 wicket win for Thunder against Strikers

26/01

Wasim with the bat, 12 (9) helped Renegades to 150/5 against Hurricanes. That total proved to be enough as Hurricanes blew out of the tournament, Imad Wasim 4-0-22-1 giving run-squeezing support, for a 11 run win for bottom of the league Renegades.

30/01

Dan Christian was relegated to a bit-part player as Sixers cruised to the final by 9 wickets over Scorchers, James Vince 98*, denied a century by Andrew Tye who bowled a wide bouncer to give Sixers their win. Jake Ball did not take part.

31/01

Just 8 (9) for Alex Hales in Thunder's play off with Heat. Heat won by 7 wickets with 5 balls unused.

06/01

For a competition with so few teams, it does go on a bit..

The Final played at SCG saw Sixers beat Heat by 27 runs. DC was the only Notts representative and he contributed with the bat and ball.

DC 20 (14) 1 four and 1 six; 4-0-5-2

  1. Thanks for taking the time to post the above.
It’s interesting that nobody is interested in franchise cricket enough to comment .

  2. I listened on radio to the game yesterday when DC hit 50 off 15. He turned the match around - Sixers were 52/2 at 10 overs, seemingly out of it, but went on to win easily! DC can win a game from anywhere. But it's hard to be consistent playing that way - e.g. he didn't fire on the 2019 T20 SF loss, but was instrumental to our T20 Blast title this year.

  3. Hales runs out Clarke for 0 for Perth Scorchers and then gets bowled himself 1st ball for the Sydney Thunder. They can only get better!!!

  4. Good ball from Behrendorff though, big bash stalwart, left armer, pitched middle, hit middle and leg.

  5. Some excellent umpiring in BBL! Khawaja caught behind off shoulder blade last week and not out off the outside edge to the keeper yesterday. Maxwell LBW when ball pitched far outside leg stump. Just wonder how it's possible to be so incompetent.

  6. today Tom Cooper was given out LBW when it was clearly outside line and he had clearly hit it - sadly, there may be something more than incompetence going on? In the world we live in, we can't rule it out - it seems the most likely explanation for a run of such atrocious decisions

  7. Millions of ££££s are staked on these matches and where money is concerned anything can happen . Cricket headlines around the world tell us that .
When you get strange decisions and unusual results it sometimes leaves an uneasy feeling.

  8. More likely umpires are a bit crap and are bamboozled by the additional new regulations so are trying to concentrate on too many things rather than a nobbled umpire or 3

  9. After watching the big bash I really can't wait for the Hundred. Agree with some of the franchise cricket in the 3rd world being a bit dodgy. But the Hundred should be all fireworks!

I suppose you'll be glued to the T10 that's starts today. Only 60 balls to watch fly off the field with zero finesse. That's not cricket either but at least it has changing ends after every 6 ball over. Shame the teams are so artificial and no one (players amdstaff of the teams apart) care who wins, how could anyone have loyalty to such superficial b*ll*cks? It's all about money with no soul.

  10. Yes, the T10 is an interesting concept. I can remember seeing Notts play Derbyshire in the season before T20 came. Lance Klusner was incredible in a T10 game! I am sure he would create some interest now.

I appreciate in the live game Laurie Evans is wearing the wrong kit, as he probably doesn't know what colour his team plays in. But the passion and thrill created by such big money is alluring

  11. Surely the ten over thrash is designed to entertain children?
No sane adult could take it seriously.
Its just meant as a bit of fun and should be treated accordingly.
Its obviously money for old rope for the players and far better than sitting at home in the cold UK.
But I do hope they dont start a ten over comp in this Country
