02/03
Alex Hales with 23(13) was eclipsed by the formidable Paul Stirling 56(33) as United beat Gladiators by 6 wickets
03/03
An awful last over from DC gave him figures of 3-0-45-1 aided and abetted by some ropey fielding. In the chase Clarke 17(14) but DC 16*(9) finished proceedings off for a Kings 6 wicket victory over Zalmi
FEBRUARY
20/02
The tournaments opening game saw Karachi Kings, captained by Imad Wasim, chase down a low target set by Quetta Gladiators with 7 wickets and 37 balls in reserve (one of which wickets was DC). Dan Christian (1/12) had accounted for Gladiators' main man - Chris Gayle. In the chase Joe Clarke top scored with 46 (6 fours 3 sixes), but ease of victory was largely down to Kings' Pakistani bowlers. Joe Clarke, keeping wicket, held four catches, Wasim 1 and DC another.
21/02Alex Hale 29 (20) in a victory for Islamabad United against Multan Sultans and Samit Patel played a minor role in Lahore Qalandars win over Peshawar Zalmi, not bowling a scoring just 8.
22/02
Qalandars beat Gladiators by 9 wickets - Samit neither bowled or batted.
Imad Wasim (4-0-32-1) and Dan Christian's (12* from 5 balls) Kings side lost to Alex Hales' (46 off 21 balls) United by 5 wickets.
26/02
Samit Patel had a bat and a bowl this time as his Qalandars lost to Sultans by 7 wickets with hefty 22 balls to spare. Samit 26*(20), 3-0-26-1
27/02
In a high scoring match , Kings beat Sultans by 7 wickets and 7 balls to spare: Wasim 4-0-22-1, DC 3-0-28-1 but Joe Clarke 54 (26) 3 fours 4 sixes made huge dent in the target of 196.
Alex Hales 41(27), wasn't enough to prevent United slumping to a 6 wicket defeat to Zalmi
28/02
Samit Patel was on the winning side against Kings, Qalandars' David Wiese with some fortuitous slogging racing his side to victory. Samit didn't bat but 2-0-27-1 with the ball, the wicket being fellow Outlaw Imad Wasim 0(1). Also for Kings: Clarke 4, DC 27(14) and 1/39
Really good innings by Joe Clarke - and he kept wicket pretty well too. Interesting to see both Duckett and Clarke keeping more this winter
ReplyDeleteTime to get the Notts boys home and into quarantine ready for the season.
ReplyDeleteAre they really “ notts boys “ anymore ?
ReplyDeleteProbably, sadly not. Perhaps they are a collection with a loose association to Notts, between the months of April and September, rather than Notts' players :(. Except in the case of Hales, Gurney and now Patel - the months of loose association is further limited to June, July and September. What ever happened to words "Team" and "Club"?
DeleteThe whole world of cricket as us “ old uns” knew is rapidly changing before our very eyes .
ReplyDeleteWho said “ adapt or die?”
Many players are simply hired mercenaries now, simply playing a few matches here and there for different outfits.
How different from years gone by when the Notts CCC faithfull saw roughly the same side playing in all formats.
Slow starter Captain Mike Smedley used to open for us in the J P 40 over Leauge and perhaps take 10 overs to get to 25/30 runs. In those days a fair number of players very rarely cleared the ropes.
In one way its more interesting and exciting to see more diverse players on the staff strutting their stuff in different styles and ways.
I speculated three or four years ago that Notts might have two different sides each season , a red ball side and a white ball side . But perhaps the Pandemic and new financial restraints have knocked that on the head for the time being !
