  1. Congratulations to Cornall (beating Somerset) and Welsh Minor Counties (beating Glamorgan) today

  2. Oh dear!
Those lists bring home what the various Counties have left of players they can pick for the Riyal London Cup matches.
Basically you could argue its been reduced to a Second Eleven Cup Competition.
I wonder what Royal London think of the situation?

  3. And one county down south is charging £25 for watching what is a glorified 2nd XI competition. You would think clubs would be wanting to get spectators back into grounds. Also not seen very much advertising and promotion of this event compared to that other competition which is going on at the same time.

  4. Hameed,Slater, Budinger, LPW, Lyndon James,Evison, Trego, Fletcher, Hutton, Paterson, Chappell, then there's others on the staff like Barber, Pettman, Schadendorf, Compton, who have all appeared for our first team with the exception of the posh lad. Doesn't sound that bad to me ? Especially for the real Notts fans out there who regard this as a competition that we can really go well in. But it's like anything if you don't think it's value then simply do not go or become a member. Assuming the price remains there or thereabouts for next season 7x4 days of red ball, plus 7xt20s plus 4xrlodc games. I reckon it works out about £4.60 every time you go to a game on an average basis. So let's compare that to other sports for a comparison. Of course there's always still some that think you should be able to go to the FA cup final, go out for dinner afterwards and still have change for your bus fayre home out of a tenner. These probably also still think Derek Randall is batting no.3 for us.

    1. Some major assumptions re: value for money AU. Not everyone can be at Trent Bridge Monday to Friday during working hours, so 4x7 days isn't a realistic number of red ball games for many (myself included). I think I've only seen between 6 - 10 days of red ball per year over the past 15 years. I have seen more first class cricket from my armchair (alternating with my settee) in 2020 and 2021 than I've seen in person at Trent Bridge since.... a long time ago. The streaming has been a godsend, long may it remain but isn't a patch on being at the ground in person.

I just look forward to the day when I can retire, and spend days down Trent Bridge watching first class cricket Monday to Friday but please not in just April and September eh!

Another thought or two: how many championship games, without weather interruptions, go to a fourth day at Trent Bridge?

Charge for the T20 cricket, but make everything else free and accessible for all - it might just increase interest.

  5. Armchair Utd- thanks for your stats re value for money membership at TB . I agree - - for many its good value these days of ever increasing prices .But the membership value has been diminished . Perhaps for years we have been spoiled and the new economic reality is kicking in !?
I post up on here as a Notts Member who joined the year Sir Garfield signed for us ! So I have seen many hundreds of matches at TB and witnessed much coming and going. For me , the Rice / Hadlee days were by far the best . You mention the retirement of our beloved one- off character Arkle ( alias D. R). I actually saw his very first appearance for Notts at TB . From memory he scored about 70 and caused much excitement in the ranks.
Going back to full membership of Notts ccc. Will the Royal London Comp be dropped from the next fixture lists? When does the RL contract expire? Will the 50 over game just disappear with no one keen to continue it - especially the ECB

  6. Only in England could you celebrate a World Cup win by completely devaluing the format in which it was secured.

  7. Hameed now in England Test squad - always seemed likely, not a wise choice of RL50 captain?

    1. A good century today by Haseeb against the Indians at CLS.

  8. Enter Captain Trego
Did a decent job with the Second 11
No one can accuse him of inexperience in the game .
Is this his final year of his Notts contract?

  9. From memory I think trigger signed for two years but I may be wrong

  10. Good choice, but really they should have thought of this! Don't select a captain who is on the fringes of the national squad. Further unnecessary disruption to planning

  11. Looking at quality players missing from most County sides it makes you think the Royal London Cup will be easier to win this year?
Looking forward to seeing Notts it two Finals days - at Edgbaston Blast 20 plus a midweek Thursday date at TB for the RLC

  12. Essex could be a real threat only 2 missing

  13. OK - I admit it !
Against my own instincts I watched the very first 100 Ball game tonight on BBC 2
I was determined to NOT enjoy it - like most other true cricket fans .
But to be honest it was excellent all round entertainment in front of an enthusiastic Oval audience - with very many young people watching in the stands ( 7,400 attendance)
Is it possible that me and many others have got the 190 ball comp wrong ?
Judging by tonights match the whole thing could well catch on.
I may have to eat humble pie And so will many others!!??

  14. someone who did watch it told me that in an interview the Oval captain Van Nierkerk, a very experienced international captain, said she had to convert the scoring rate into overs in the chase, as she couldn't calculate it in five balls. If that doesn't say the 100 ball format fails as cricket, I am not sure what does. It may succeed as entertainment, in the same way as WWE 'wrestling' may, but it isn't wrestling. Analogy?

  15. Max - its true in business that you have to change , adapt to new situations or die. Cricket is now big business ( compared to years ago)
All sports have to attract a younger audience otherwise the stalwarts die off over time and there is no one to replace them ... Like many older Members I was brought up on 4 day county cricket ( 3 days not too long ago)
But to be honest the great majority of younger people find the 4 day stuff boring and pointless to watch - especially if a drawn match occurs .
I was amazed last night watching the match on BBC 2 how many families attended with young children . At the end many hundreds ( thousands) were standing up clapping and cheering what they had just seen . So many looked really happy and excited . I was most surprised!

  16. Some fine matches, all the same, in the RL

Still overseas stars there, like Amla and Harris, which we fought for, and did win that one.

    Good performances from youngsters too.

Are Notts matches being streamed please ?

    1. You didn't fancy the Foxes beating Derby game then. I watched that but then switched for the better conclusion (unpredictability wise) at Cardiff.

The scenic Sedbergh is on Youtube at the moment - Sharks in magenta uniforms!

  18. Thanks for the tip , I’ll have a look in a minute. I ran out of time yesterday. I was looking for a combination of a close game and good camera work. ( the Kent game was not close and only had one fixed camera)
