Some really encouraging performances for the future. and thanks to Peter for leading the team.
ReplyDeleteThanks too to the many who supported your teams or came along to enjoy proper cricket as a neutral throughout the competition , which was a success.
ECB saying Final next year will be on a Saturday, and please Notts put some posters up for it then.
Attendance despite being in the week and lack of promotion, I think, excellent.
We wanted to see and did younger players in the 50 overs games.some did better than others but most generally did well, and there were a few nice surprises along the way.
ReplyDeleteI watched many of the other counties too and enjoyed seeing their stock of players coming through. The live stream at Welbeck was unwatchable and Grantham wasn’t much better with no commentary coming through ( insert your joke he if you wish)
It wasn’t without humorous moments too, Jeremy coney commentating on our game at Guildford when an innocent, hapless bloke going home from work along Woodbridge road ,out of the goodness of his heart, decided to try and throw the ball back in was a gem.
The final at Trent Bridge had a good vibe and was most enjoyable.the supporters of both clubs involved did well to turn out in such numbers considering there was little time to mobilise for the event.
Yes, in spite of all the hoo-hah with the hhhhhhhhhundred, it was indeed a most enjoyable competition this year. Moving it to a Saturday is a no brainier to everyone except the suits&blazers at the ECB and say a more competitive pricing structure from the outset especially for early bird type of ticket purchases. Considering both finalists were from Durham and Glamorgan I agree it was a good turnout and I would say still a big success overall. Not sure of official attendance figures, I would estimate about 8,000 to 10,000 possibly. I spied Zanga with his grandson and Macdonalds Happy Meal. I defected to the Larwood&Voce where there was more space at the top and the Taverners bar was being used for the match. It had been hired by Billy Rooooooot's family and there were colleagues there who had played with Billy at Sheffield Colleigate Cricket Club. I felt for them when he was trapped first ball. The question to Fox Rd Boot Boy, is upon your return to Mecca, did you sit in the Fox Road Stand ?
ReplyDeleteLooking at those sets of figures, who gets the batting place for Wednesday's big qtr final. We opted for 57yo Peter Trego(who did a brilliant job in last years final), then gave Lord Budinger a few games and also then, when down the bones, gave a long awaited chance to Ben Slater. Although not having the power game of the other two, I would opt for Ben Slater in this big game and possibly rejig the batting order around slightly. To me he is just plain and simple a much better player now that PT is obviously coming to the end of his very illustrious career.
ReplyDeleteCrickey, thanks stonewall for the nice enquiry. The short answer is no I sat in the William Clark.im still a bit wary of mixing in crowds a knew certain parts of the said stand would be under populated albeit with not such a good view . I’ve worked out how to change the settings to drop the “ boot boy” bit of fox road. When I first got into cricket there was a significant and unsavoury lot across the road known as the Trent end boot boys. The fox road boot boys were just the two of us and we took the name in vain,as we used to sit there and play cricket under the old stand.A very long answer to a short question..
