The undoubted success has to be the debut season of Calvin Harrison, Which once again proves the value of a quality leg spinner.
ReplyDeleteLess impressive was the form of some of the batsmen, For players who have in the past proved their abilities, Both Moores and Mull had relatively poor returns,Far too often it was left to the top three of Hales, Clarke and Duckett to either set or chase down a total..
Many have commented on the heads up attitude of the Notts batting, Judging by the Birmingham Bears performance last night it to be catching!
Notts will probably be there or thereabouts next season, With a little luck and less interference from Cricket Australia we should have DC back.
We will probably need it given the horse trading already happening, Poor Sussex have lost Phil Salt to Lancashire and also Chris Jordan who returns to Surrey, There will almost certainly be more movement over the next few months, Whether Notts need to be involved depends to a large extent as to whether common sense can be added to the team, To lose as Notts did earlier this week shows their lemming like attitude to batting, All that was needed was some clear thinking.
Surely it should not be to find it!
Last line should read "Surely it should not be too hard to find it.
ReplyDeleteCalvin Harrison Notts Young Player of the Year...
ReplyDeleteHow does Tom Moores keep getting white ball Franchise deals ? Poor for the Jaffna Stallions, poor for the Trent Rockets(who really cares about that) and poor for Notts Outlaws. It won't happen for obvious reasons but what about next year signing a top class keeper/batsman in T20 ? Alex Carey, Ben McDermott for example. Presumably Quinton de Kock up not available due to Sourh Africa touring England in 2022. Or, if easier option what about Duckett or Clarke keeping and giving us an additional bowling/batting option. I'm sorry Tom but if you're batting high in order you simply have to make significant contributions to winning games. I notice Andy Flower and Lewis Gregory didn't bat him high for the Rockets which tells me everything. Brilliant efforts from Baz(Hales) and Calvin Harrison. I'm sure his batting will develop a lot more now he's signed a pro deal with us. It's easy to always label your own team as perennial bottlers. We have won it twice in the last 5 years. Watched Kent last night and was interesting to hear they have lost 4 quarter finals on the trot and it's their first finals day since 2009. T20 is unpredictable as we all know and sadly we were due to lose a big home game at this stage sooner or later. The manner of the defeat was disappointing but no matter how you lose you're not going to Edgbaston at the end of the day.
ReplyDeleteAgents and recommendations is how Tom Moores has got on. He kept well to the spinners for those Rocket lot, to be fair, but his batting for Outlaws has been a let down in the last few years. It does help give job security when your dad is the gaffer.
ReplyDeleteOn reflection, I am probably being a bit hard on Tom Moores. He has made decent contributions in all formats at times. Personally not convinced he's a top6 batter regardless of the format but it's all opinions at the end of day. Did see him score, I believe, his maiden 100 when batting for the stiffs and he withstood a lot of short pitched bowling which was impressive for somebody so young at the time. Hope he can prove me wrong and really start gaining some consistency with the willow.
