Is it not time we lowered our expectations alittle?

Guess was never going to be the original Patto of 2017 after a series of unfortunate lays offs and injuries. Also don’t think a surface like that did him any favours, but it was disturbing to see how easily the Glam. tailend batters coped with him especially with the new ball.(albeit he didn’t have much luck all game). Still think he will do a decent enough job for us over the season, but just hasn’t got the pace we have seen previously that literally destroyed teams in Div. 2
ReplyDeleteA different argument is whether Notts should have invested elsewhere in the squad ? Especially if Duckett and/or Clarke get a chance with England now there will be a new direction moving forwards and also to provide competition for the openers. Think Lyndon James has the technique and ability to bat much further up the order however in this regard, irrespective of his bowling situation he is a top 6 batter in red ball cricket full stop in my opinion
Yes, some valid points made.
ReplyDeleteIf Pattinson has lost some pace, and that could be a temporary situation, down to a lack of fitness or rythmn, then he will have to learn to bowl with greater control if he is to contribute to team performance. From what I witnessed from the Glamorgan game, Paterson will be crucial to Notts as he was in 2021. Let us hope that he can stay fit throughout the season.
For me, Evison and James should be batting in the top 6, and Patterson White ahead of Tom Moores in the order.
Duckett may be in with a shout of England selection, depending on whether or not, the soon to be elected new coach rates him. As for Clarke, he still has to tighten up on his technique on off stump, and prove that he can consistently concentrate for long enough periods in 4 day cricket, before he can be considered for test selection. At this stage in his career, Evison looks a much better long term prospect at number 4 than Joe Clarke, in the longer format of the game.
Yes you could well be right Mark. A lot of very good points made there. Completely agree with Tom Moores in the order.
ReplyDeleteI think, ideally, both Duckett&Clarke would have made the England white ball outfit initially I just wonder how desperate Rob Key and the new Captain will be to unearth some batters from somewhere in pure desperation to try and find a batting unit that fires at Test level?
Duckett must have a chance if he can produce another century or two in the coming weeks ?
