The competition has at this time eliminated 13 counties from the Vitality T20 Blast for another year. One of which is sadly Notts. Once again thanks go to MAG for his match reports and for the following statistical analysis of Notts Outlaws' over all disappointing campaign.
Perhaps we will be able to see statistically where games went wayward: was it a lack of a finisher, the lack of a second death bowler or was it that other teams in the division knew how to trip-up the Peter Moores Old Brigade, that had been so reliable and consistent of many season previously (to our enjoyment)?

At first glance i thought well done Tom Moores to finish 2nd in the batting averages with a good strike-rate, but over 14 group games those stats are still nothing to write home about. Guess it highlights even more, how poor some of the others were. May be a decent white ball acquisition for someone if only he could keep wicket also.
ReplyDeleteWell done Ben Duckett and now an overdue call up to the England Lions squad. Our Baz(Hales) also did ok, brilliant strike-rate, but never quite hit the heights he would have expected but can certainly hold his head up high
Matt Carter and, sadly albeit a still young, Calvin Harrison - ouch and double and treble ouch. More frightening than watching the uncensored version of the Exorcist and more painful and excruciating than watching Boris Johnson take a lie-detector test
I back Calvin to learn from this ‘2nd year syndrome’ and come back strong. He’s young, a good athlete, a good fielder and can bat although not doing himself much justice batting up the order for the stiffs so far. Not so sure about Matt. Carter, which is frustrating, as he has a lot of ability with both bat and ball. Presumably will go to Cardiff for the red baller against Glamorgan and may possibly get a chance to spark his season there if he plays ?
Statistics can sometimes tell only half the story.
ReplyDeleteWithout being not out on 5 occasions, Tom Moores average would only be 19, and 200 plus runs is in 14 innings, is a poor tally for someone batting in the top five.
However, it would be unfair just to single him out.
Our spin bowlers who in previous seasons have had a fair amount
of success in the T20, have by in large gone round the park this season. Harrison for sure has to improve his batting if he wishes to be a contender for 4 day cricket, and he will be disappointed with his stats for Notts thus far in second X1 cricket considering he scored 100 against us for Oxford uni, pre season 2021.
Realistically, some of our old stagers will now need to be jettisoned with regard to next seasons tournament, and two quality overseas recruits will be crucial for Notts to be successful in T20, in 2023.
At least that 261 record didn't last long. New highest T20 Blast score 265-5 Somerset v Derbys. Derbys also take the largest losing margin of 191 runs.
ReplyDeleteFair to say Buble well and truly burst tonight courtesy of the Wurzells ?
DeleteAny chance we can entice George Scrimshaw to travel down the A52 especially now after his qtr final heroics in the face of that total destruction?
ReplyDeleteA huge piece of work,thanks.
