Dr Bansil's Patient List

30/09

New physio couches being delivered for Josh Tongue and Olly Stone (and the rest of the sicknotes) for next season.

27/09

Ben Slater's hip will be requiring the attention of the doctor this evening and probably again in the morning.

22/09

Has Dr Bansil been doing a good job?

On the face of it he'd almost cleared his book at the start of this week:

  • Fletcher back in the 2s, bowling.
  • Stone back in the 2s, but not doing much
  • Ball in the traveling squad for the first team but not picked for the XI
  • LPW back playing for the 2s regularly
  • Mullaney playing back to back matches after his August "holiday", his niggles just a vague memory
  • Samit Patel, what does it matter now he's Derbyshire's problem/asset in 2024, not that we're allowed to know that before he's said his farewells to the Notts members next Wednesday. Are they the club/Pravda treating us more like children or mugs?

That only left James Hayes, who had had an injury for quite a chunk of the season. I'm not sure if Pravda had reported on his injury at any point this summer or not, (probably not) but sadly he looks to be heading in a same direction as Ben Kitt did, loads of promise followed by departure owing to injury and a lack of opportunities. That was until he hit our screens as a substitute fielder for Calvin Harrison who left the Old Trafford field with a thumb injury this morning. More good work by the doctor?

With a new sick note (or two) programming their satnavs with NG2 6AG in 2024, opportunities will be reduced further, and that's just to get signed-off sick by the doctor.

So has the doctor been doing his job well?

He must have been doing something right as he bagged the job with the Trent Bridge parasites in August, meaning Notts had to hire Phil Tranter as cover for the Metro Bank Cup.

Some criticisms were voiced after the spate of players passing fitness tests only to break down immediately they start doing their paid job. How difficult are these fitness test to pass?

To the question of how you think the club/Pravda treat the loyal supporters, is it like children or like mugs, add like ignorant fools...

26/08

Tongue Out

It has to be wondered if Dr Bansil was consulted before Josh Tongue was signed by our cheque book DoC...

Think of the work load with perpetually injured Olly Stone and Jake Ball already on his patient list. Perhaps Phil Tranter has already got a permanent position as Dr B's assistant...

23/08

15/08

Locum seen at Radlett supervising Olly Stone partaking in some light exercise

13/08

Notts have had to call in a locum as  Dr B has sold his soul to the Devil and carries his bag now for the Rocketeers.

10/08

Olly Stone is suggested to be near fitness ready for England duty in September.

Luke Fletcher's recovery must have been set back by his short appearance in the last championship game.

Will Jake Ball be in a position to prove his fitness this evening as a Welsh Fireman?

27/07

Questions:

Obviously players will (hopefully) always want to play, but is there a fitness test that they must pass before they're eligible for selection?

Does  Dr Bansil have a right of veto on any selection, on medical grounds?

Alternatively, does Peter Moores have a veto over Dr Bansil's veto (if he does have a veto)?

How on Earth was Luke Fletcher deemed to be fit on Monday?

Has there been a breakdown in common sense at Trent Bridge?

In reply Dr Bansil said, " all players must pass a stringent fitness assessment before selection for any game and that the eye chart I use will be familiar to everyone, it's the standard NHS one and I think is very tricky", the good doctor continued, "if you factor-in the work done by my colleagues on match days with the foot-volleyball; everyone knows football is more demanding on the body than playing cricket, so if you can survive the morning warm-up, it  stands to reason you will come through a day of standing around in a field, no bother!"

So when asked why Luke Fletcher had broken down on Wednesday he said, "that was a freak occurrence, no one could have foreseen that happening and it is riddiculous to start pointing fingers of blame, Peter and myself are shocked that Luke was unable to put a full shift in today [Wednesday]".

"Can I also add that the news of Olly, [as reported on ESPN on Wednesday], comes as a great relief to myself, my family, my colleagues, my friends, my dog and my window cleaner who I also consider a good friend, so he's doubly relieved, keeping the secret was becoming intolerable and I think at the end there the dog's mental health was beginning to suffer, but now I'm no longer hamstrung and can admit Olly is injured, there see I said it and it feels great!

When asked how Stone actually got injured, the doctor closed the door saying, "ask the window cleaner, he'll know, he knows everything but leave the dog alone".

22/07

The management decision to risk Luke Fletcher in the quarter final at Taunton has apparently backfired; putting back Luke's recovery. There is now little prospect of seeing Fletcher bowling for Notts before September at the earliest - a source close to the horse's mouth

There's been a suggestion that Dr Bansil has put in a transfer request to go and work at QMC A&E. He finds the prospect of a lighter workload appealing, apparently.

Steven Mullaney looks a candidate to be signed off the doctors list next week, having batted an innings for the Seconds this week, and yesterday bowling a few gentle balls at lunch at Trent Bridge.

16/07

Questions:

So why so many bowlers getting injured?

Are the fitness and conditioning coaches at fault or are they being ignored by the head coach, the club captain and the players in question?

Is the good doctor's medical advice being ignored also?

In previous seasons we've escaped almost injury free, so is time catching up with some individuals? Or is it just unfortunate bad luck?

After the heroics of the Oval, will Lyndon James need a rest this week against Hampshire? No one wants a reoccurence of last season's injury from over doing it.

Will Dane Paterson be fit enough to be selected, can we trust him to last four days? Likewise Brett Hutton?

Luke Fletcher was initially carded to make a return for the 2s at Belper, but never played, so is he still out of the picture and would or could he be trusted to last four days either?

You have to assume Jake Ball has joined Olly Stone in the luxury ornament department - looks great to have in your squad on paper but little use on the field of battle, alas. If either was proclaimed to be fit, could they be trusted to go the distance?

Steven Mullaney, has his niggle gone or do we keep with the impressive, inventive, proactive captaincy of Haseeb Hameed?

15/07

There has been a long standing belief that Notts rotate their the seam bowlers, to avoid excessive workloads over a long season, but it never hardly happens:

  • one bowler has a dream season, taking lots of wickets meaning there's a great  reluctance to leave him out of game or for the player to want to sit out a game
  • Notts haven't had the strength in depth to have different attacks of comparable potency (arguably)
  • the squad carries certain players that are serial sick notes
  • Peter Moores is reluctant to give players from the Second eleven a try in the either the T20 or the Championship in increase that depth of choice

Are we now reaping the negative effects of the lack of rotation from multiple seasons?

11/07

A busy time for the doctor. Today's appointments will be face to face and via Zoom.

10/07

Jake Ball's abdominal strain was being assessed Monday afternoon.

Brett Hutton remained on the field as much as possible whilst he was clearly struggling with hopefully just cramp.

Steven Mullaney will be making an appointment after pulling out of the side ahead of today's game with a niggle, "a side niggle".

Steven Mullaney's appointment will have to be put back, as priority must go to players actively engaged in a match - Hutton and Ball crocked inside two sessions at the Oval.

06/07

The doctor has discharged both Luke Fletcher and Steven Mullaney from his care. Matt Carter missed his appointment on Tuesday, shrugged and said that he didn't need it in the first place.

Earlier today the Doctor's appointment list was confused with the list of those traveling to Taunton. Pravda accidently published the list on their website, before swiftly withdrawing it and hastily filling the news feed with posts about two new patients for the doctor's 2024 lists.

03/07

The good doctor will need to get an assistant with his mounting workload. Are you up for challenge Dr Soper?

Remind me if I've missed anyone as the Doc is off sick today.

Luke Fletcher still convalescing from ankle surgery (which clearly wasn't quite as minor as advertised)

Liam Patterson-White hamstring, "hoping to be back for the Oval"

Colin Munro hamstring, severity unknown after a scan - Pravda cover-up

Samit Patel calf strain

Olly Stone - a complete mystery (suspected TB Zakchappellitis which can be career changing and no laughing matter, really)

Steven Mullaney - side strain

Matt Carter - hand injury pick-up in his last over (possibly), but he'll shrug that off as he's good at shrugging and is as 'ard as nails.

01/07

"Forced off the field" mid over, crowd gobsmacked. No explanation. Rubbish Notts!

27/06

Olly Stone allowed 12th man fielding duties

25/06

Olly Stone allowed light 12th man duties today.

24/06

20/06

Special door for the T20 royalty that have appointments in the morning.

After a six and out in the Outlaws innings, Joe Clarke was also absent from fielding. Notts making full use of the whole of the 14 man squad. Friday we should expect the announcement of a 15 man squad (just to be safe).

11/06 Doctor's notes:

10/06

Saturday surgery for the doctor after being on call last night

08/06

Those healing hands of the good doctor mean that he has fewer appointments today.

05/06

Carry On Doctor!

04/06

Following morning surgery, Jake Ball will be rested, Alex Hales will play even though he is carrying an injury and his mobility is restricted and Joe Clarke is likewise but to a lesser extent (or hides it better).

A busy morning for the doctor...

30/05 Luke Fletcher, self-assessed his own fitness as at 14% this evening; so it's fair to say that we won't be seeing him in the near future, or this side of The Hundred August.

Jake Ball can't come back soon enough, in my opinion. 4 wickets for far too many runs for No.70, and shouldn't retain his place.

29/05 Fitness update for one of our bowlers

27/05 Emergency Sunday surgery being arranged at Trent Bridge (see below)

26/05 Busy day at the surgery but the doctor hopes to discharge one of his patients today.

24/05 Luke Fletcher is receiving post-operative assessments from Dr Bansil after a minor-procedure on his ankle

21/05 Next appointment for Brett Hutton

19/05

For those not at the Members' Forum, Luke Fletcher had a bowling fitness assessment at lunchtime.

18/05

Dr Bansil's walking wounded made a walk-through appearance after surgery - Olly Stone, Tom Moores and Jake Ball .

Fateh Singh was doing some fielding practice at lunch.

17/05

Statements were release today with regards to two of the Doctor's patients:

Tom Moores (finger) is expected to ready for team selection next week (Blast).

Luke Fletcher (ankle) is "being assessed", so might be lunchtime entertainment on the practice strip over the Essex game(?).

No word on Fateh Singh (finger) or Stone (hamstring), the latter not expected to be with any chance of contention before June.

The enigma, that is Jake Ball, remains absent (in body) and also absent from press releases (in name)!

15/05

With Moores (finger), Fletcher (ankle), Stone (hamstring)seemingly out for the rest of the month and including the start of the Blast campaign, will the Welbeck Welsh Fireman be getting a fitness trial at any of the SET20 matches this week?

Games at: Derby (Tuesday) x2 and Worksop (Thursday) x 2 SET20 fixtures

12/05

Luke Fletcher was added to Dr Bansil's patient list again after a recurrence of the ankle injury that kept him out for two rounds of matches last month.

11/05

Olly Stone will miss the start of the Vitality Blast following a scan of his injured hamstring. We (Nottinghamshire), and England, will be working with Olly to get him returning to cricket in a timely manner without compromising his recovery ahead of a busy summer.

06/05

The Good Doctor will be reviewing he club's warm-up routines after Olly Stone rolled into his surgery wanting an appointment mid-over after off and on period of disrupted play.

05/05

The doctor's finger clinic ran a lunch time assessment of Fateh Singh at Trent Bridge today. The good doctor must be working miracles. There was no sign of Tom Moores however, as Dane Schadendorf assisted the doctor with his assessment.

04/05

It has become clear that both Fletcher and Ball have healed and have been discharged by the doctor.

It has come to our attention that a special broken finger clinic has been set up for two current casualties; Tom Moores and Fateh Singh.

03/05

In a press release from Dr Bansil's receptionist, it said that owing to patient confidentiality, no fitness status updates of either Jake Ball, Luke Fletcher nor Tom Moores, will be made public, so you will have to wait and see.

Meanwhile, Luke Fletcher has cancelled his appointment with the doctor and has been included in a 13 man squad to host Lancashire.

20/04

Fateh Singh broke a finger in the recent Seconds game.

19/04

Jake Ball, a regular patient of the doctor, has made an appointment today unfortunately and is likely to miss his trip to London.

15/04

Tom Moores has formed a queue to see the good doctor after a hand injury forced him from the field on Day 3 vs Somerset, the injury not responding to magic spray in the middle. It did look a tad painful, as Tom rolled around like a Premier League footballer shot by a sniper's rifle when in the penalty area!

After Patient Chappell had been referred to a clinic in Derby at the end of 2022, Dr Bansil has had the revolving door to his surgery replaced with a standard open and shut door.

13/04

Dr Bansil has been treating Luke Fletcher for an ankle injury.

  1. Rumours suggest Tom Moores is so fed up of picking up injuries to his hands and finger he’s going to keep with his feet in future - and by all accounts he’s actually better this way

  2. Suppose we should be grateful he managed to bowl 3 consecutive deliveries plus that amazing catch
You have to feel for the lad, but you can see why the Bears only offered him a one year white ball contract(I believe)
What were the chances of both him and Jake Ball being able to bowl their compliments of overs in the same game ?
What did Tommy Docherty say about a player ? He’s so injury prone, he’d come back injured if he went on A Question of Sport.

  3. Absolutely not. If its now the 3rd diagnosis of Zakchappellitis there’s not much you can do I’m afraid
It’s a rare condition that has to be managed long term, on a daily basis and whenever a match day situation arrives, it can easily flare up again.
It’s also contagious and has been known to be contracted by The Welbeck Wizard over the last few years
Currently, the only team capable of managing a case of Zakchappellitis are the medical team at Derbyshire CCC who appear to be getting to grips with this horrid affliction that tends to last the entire length of one’s cricketing career.

    1. Whilst at Gloucestershire in 2022 the patient, a carrier of the virus, had a brief flare-up of the symptoms for TB Zakchappellitis but he was sufficiently recovered to play at Grantham and Welbeck afterhaving time away from West Bridgford. The only known cure is long term isolation from Trent Bridge. The same patient had one short visit in May 2023 to Trent Bridge from his isolation, which again caused a brief flare-up less than a month later. The incubation period for TBZ is estimated to be around 21 days. I understand Dr Bansil is currrently writing a piece for the Lancet on TBZ. or a at least its glossy pull out cricket magazine called the Glance-it.

  4. Yes, indeed Nottsview Admin
It’s a terrible condition which was also contracted by Trevor Francis, Mark Footitt, Paul Coughlin, Richard Hodgkinson and Andy Carter down the years
It defies all medical casebook notes and only seems to improve once the patient is out of contract and wanting a new deal
My fellow top consultant Sir Michavello of New-Will-Shire has gambled on curing the present patient at great cost and expense but luckily he’s in his senior years after 40 years in his profession and can gamble with this charity patient, formerly of Warwickshire, Edgbaston

    1. Those historic cases, I'm sure you're fully aware Dr Soper, were at their times diagnosed under the now umbrella term of Scare-D-Catytis - most common symptoms being cold feet, loose bowels and form of paranoia where the patient thought themselves to be an imposter and about to be discovered as such. Dr Bansil is fully aware of some of those cases and has been reviewing the patient notes, provided by the Radcliffe Road practice and consulting with Dr Pipe, who had hands on experience with one of those cases you mention, whilst writing his paper. TBZ is a distinctly separate condition as it's major trigger appears to be exposure to the environment of NG2 6__. The most recent case formerly of both Northampton and Birmingham however, has been known to have had previous outbreaks of TBZ after watching Trent Bridge Test Matches on his television whilst sitting at home. Dr Pipe believes this might be an extremely rare case of TB Zakchappellitis-by proxy and says Sir Michavello of New-Will-Shire was fully aware of the risks involved. After lengthy a study Dr Bansil has concluded that the only other case of TBZ-by proxy recorded was a Mr Malcolm Lingerer, age 93 of Chipping Sodbury for whom it proved fatal. He too, like the most recent case had zero symptoms when Mal walked (his final walk) from the TV room of his residential care facility, after watching England v India 4 July 1996 (The Trent Bridge Test). The latest patient as result of this research, is being kept under constant, very close observation 24/7 as a precaution.

  6. Not a good start to he's Notts career
Having picked up a similar injury playing rugby some years back myself it can be quite a period out recovering if it needs surgery
It can take upwards of 6 months to recover
Both tongue & Pennington have both been injures prone over last couple years
With the pears let hope the don't end up

  9. You would think Rocketman Teflon(now back giving his 100% to his main job presumably) after his Rocket’s misfired like an out of date scud missile, really would stay clear of bowlers with long standing injury records and those who are regularly on the sidelines with their recovery programs and not able to take to the playing field on a regular basis ????
His recent record is as about as flash as his own playing record with Coughlan, Chappell, Stone and now possibly Tongue who was contemplating retiring from cricket 🏏 before signing to join Notts from next season, due to a very lengthy spell out
