Now Pravda announce the signing of Francis Moore
Moises Henriques has announced his retirement from First Class Cricket

Farhan Ahmed has had a wholloping ninety knocked-off his squad number and is now the new holder of the number SEVEN (if my eyes didn't deceive me with pictures from the stream from Grace Road).
When Chris Read retired, I'm fairly sure the Club said they would honour his 20 years service by retiring HIS squad number.
That didn't last long and Ben Compton wore shirt number 07 for his year before he made his move to Canterbury.
So much for retiring the superstitious, popular number.
Last season Kyle Verreynne wore the lucky 7 shirt. What number will he don this year?

Pravda advert for new training kit reveals that Conor McKerr has bagged squad number 3

Alex Hales, out of contract since last month, it has been announced today will not be part of Notts Outlaws' T20 Blast campaign in 2025. Alex, married in the winter and is now living abroad (the reasons given). Mick Newell says that the door remains open for Hales to return in the future. We'll see!
Hales has signed for the Knight Rider franchises playing in the MLC and CPL this summer, not that Notts sources have said so.
#10 becomes vacant, so who might snaffle a new number?

Mohammed Abbas signed for the initial period after Fergus O'Neil has left (May) and then perhaps in September - six championship games.
When O'Neil was signed, the official line was that they looking to strengthen the batting through signing bowlers that could bat a bit as well, someone better than the Great Dane in the batting department. Scroll forward one month and Mo replaces Fergus as overseas bowler, but a fail to see how Mo is a significant step-up in batting class from Dane.
A signing six years in the making for Mick

Tom Moores has signed a new white ball only contract, until the end of 2026.

Notts have announced the signing of Australian 23 year old prospect Fergus O'Neill, a fast bowler who also bats a bit. Owing to visa restrictions, Fergus' contract lasts for only 28 days (during April 2025).
Talking on Pravda, Peter Moores said
“He will, in effect, replace Dane Paterson, who won’t be with us for the start of the season as his re-entry into the Test arena and our desire to strengthen our batting means we have opted for a slightly different style of player.
“It is worth highlighting what a fantastic servant Dane has been to the club, though. His record is outstanding; he has built a great legacy with Notts in just a few years and remains an immensely popular character in the dressing room.”
So Dane is returning...???

James Hayes signalled the last of the current staff's dealing for the current year.
However, Alex Hales will do whatever he wants to do; having a voodoo spell over the current Director of Cricket. His last contract was signed in February 2024 and ran for half of the T20 Blast group stages
A cloak of secrecy shrouds the contracts of the two captains, why is that?7 Farhan Ahmed 2027

If Hales is offered anything that would be appalling
ReplyDeleteHe's got a better offer in 2025 from the New World
DeleteMoney to burn
ReplyDeleteIn Mr Newell's defence, Tom Moores' new terms might now be commensurate with his actual abilities and he is now just part time. We'll never know the details.
DeleteWow. White ball contract. Well done Dad! The guys not county level. Says everything you need to know about Notts ccc at this time.
DeleteIt's a fudge. Nowhere near good enough for CC. Now recognised at long last and will not appear, even as specialist batsman (!). Not good enough for T20 but being moderately better at that saves him. Good non nepotism management would have seen the ridiculous 2025 contract paid off and the door shown with Dane promoted.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, spot on. Fudge being the operative word. He isn't good enough for any form of first class cricket, either as a batsman or a wicket keeper.
DeleteSchadendorf will continue to be marginalised with the signing of the South African keeper.
Odds are, that we will be stuck with both of the Moores's for two more years.Total madness.
A white ball contract allows players to pursue overseas opportunities such as the Pakistan Super League that overlaps with the English season without the need for a No Objection certificate from the ECB. Would expect to see other players within the county game move to white ball contracts to take advantage of these opportunities.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the prestigious /High paid franchise leagues would touch moores. Prob play in the Notts prem league in between white ball commitments with Notts.
ReplyDeleteNot sure he would get in a prem side when he played for wymeswold he didn’t keep wicket
ReplyDeleteGood grief.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture. Is that Abbey Road ? Happy Christmas everyone !
ReplyDeleteYes Rich it's Abbey Road with Mick and Lisa, two of the Fab Four of the top table. Here's to a Merry New Year!
DeleteMr Moore played a couple of games for Notts 2nd Xi last season, v Zimbabwe A (0; 6-1-27-0, 5-3-15-1; 1 ct) and Lancs 2nd XI (3-0-8-0).
