v Lancashire LV Championship Day 2

Prince has his day but weather is king.

Honours were even after an entertaining day at The Bridge; curtailed early by rain.

Franks came in Phillips from the triumphant X1 from Hove, Read won the toss and inserted the Champions.
Gurney opened the day with four byes as the openers added 11, before Horton edged Carter to slip to depart for 3.Moore was badly dropped at slip by Voges off Adams whilst on eight. Karl Brown hit a series of fours off the Kiwi, but Adams got his revenge when with the score on 64 Patel took a superlative catch at slip as Brown went back to pavilion for 34 a knock which included eight fours. Four overs later Adams bowling from the Pavilion End got one to nip back to Moore who was bowled for 24.

Ashwell Prince and Croft added 60 in 18 overs until the latter was surprised by a short ball from Carter and only succeeded in ballooning the ball into Read’s gloves as he departed for 29.  Procter whose crouched down stance reminded the crowd of Basharat Hassan, although a left-handed version, scratched around for ten overs before edging Adams to Patel who took his second catch of the innings.

When on 51, Prince edged Adams low down to Hales at first slip who failed to hold the chance.  Shortly afterwards the players went off to rain with the Red Rose on 185 for five. An hour an half later at 1645 the players returned briefly, but shortly before the rain returned at 1705 Cross (35) played a hook shot off Adams and was caught low down by Taylor at deep square leg.  His partnership with Prince had added 52 in 12 overs. Prince no doubt relieved that his nemesis Swann was otherwise engaged finish the day on 63 not out as Lancashire were 203 for six at stumps.

Adams after taking a bit of pasting early doors once again looked a menace taking four wickets and well backed up by Carter. Franks meanwhile although inducing a few edges had trouble once again with his radar.

A wash out is predicted by the Met Office for Thursday.
