Sheffield Shield Steve Smith

Andy writes from  Downunder:

NSW v. Western Australia - Sheffield Shield - 11th Nov

I went to a couple days play of this game . Another paltry crowd sadly to watch the best non-international bowling attack in the world. Smith ground out a patient century for NSW . He had 25% of his match fee deducted though for dissent as he glared three times at the umpire having been given out caught behind when he didn't think he'd hit it . NSW were just too powerful for WA and the game finished an hour after lunch on the fourth day. NSW have now won 4 out of 4 in the competition.

Score:

NSW 444-8d
Smith 103 Henriques 91 Cummins 52
& 98-0d
Hughes 53* Henriques 42*

WA
191
Short 51
Agar 38
Cummins 3-31
& 128
Inglis 46
Starc 4-57
Hazlewood3-7

NSW won by 223 runs

  1. Is the ground actually open for spectators ? Or is it being played in secret behind closed doors?
I thought the Sheffield Shield matches were well supported. Are they now on the slide - a bit like our 4 day Championship matches ?

  2. PATTO SUSPENDED

Australia captain Tim Paine says fast bowler James Pattinson has "let himself down" after being found guilty of his third code of conduct breach of 2019.

It means Pattinson will miss the first Test against Pakistan in Brisbane for disciplinary reasons.

Cricket Australia took action after the 29-year-old used abusive language towards an opponent during Victoria's defeat by Queensland last week.

"I made a mistake in the heat of the moment," said Pattinson.

"I'm gutted to miss a Test match, but the standards are there for a reason and the fault is mine."

The exact details of Pattinson's latest offence have not been revealed, but he was found guilty of a level-two breach relating to personal abuse of a player, which was enough to trigger a one-match ban.

In a statement, the governing body said the bowler "apologised immediately and unreservedly to the opponent and the umpires, and did not contest the charge".

"He knows he's let himself down," added Paine.

    1. What chances on Patto coming back as overseas ? could he(dare we). The Patto that stayed fit in his first spell for us was simply devastating and completely unplayable by Div2 batters, but the gamble didn't work last season. Having to miss the first 2 red ballers did not help. But even Patto at 80percent meant we could compete in games in respect of the now fabled Pick 'cartel'

    2. Lets see if this post works! My last few have not (commenting about the ease to get a table at Six, for supposedly peak times - suggesting it is not full), and being doleful about the departure of Libby, Wood and Coughlin. I think we are very short of a quality squad for 2020 and I do not get the job creation for Pick in light of Shine's appointment.

There was a post wondering if money was tight given the fab 4 signing and - my addition - that we now bear Hales' salary too.

Hameed not as cheap as we think (I think) and I wonder who else is in the offing...…

I'd go for Patto if available. Isnt it that we have 7 x county games complete before end May? Any signing needs to be playing in 5 of those and I wonder if Broad will show up (literally and metaphorically) too.

    3. We do need wickets but also we need crease occupation in terms of overs (used up) and time - panic quickly sets in with the Calapsico Fab Four and 1 wicket has often led to 10 in no time (last season). So we need a reliable Test calibre overseas batsman (who bowls too?????)

  3. Empty stadiums, is the future for the CC?
