Batting #26challenge

It should have been the London Marathon today hence the hash tag...

Can you name any of the six cricketers, having played for Nottinghamshire this century, that over their Nottinghamshire career (only) have averaged 26.__ runs per completed First Class innings (as according to MAG's magnificent statistics, which will be spot on). No rounding up, as per Guy Welton on 25.77, just include 26.00 - 26.99 runs.

  1. I'm not cheating with this as it's only a bit of fun after all, so how about Greg Smith and Will Jefferson(the best player Teflon Mick says he's ever coached incidentally)

  2. Greg J Smith is 13.86 but I gusess you meant Greg P Smith who is well short on 21.86. Jethro is one of the six though with 26.83.

  3. Yes RJV on Twitter who identified Jake Libby, who weirdly has the same average as the lofty Will Jefferson.

  4. And that gets you a new 3 year contract with the Worcester Raptors(shocking). What about a pretty average, no, awful keeper/batter say, High Noon and a brilliant bowler/no.8 batter Paul "The General" Franks?

  5. Nice try Stoney J but Cone-Boy is 22.50 and The General 28.49.

A clue might be that one is currently on the playing staff.

  6. That's a bit cryptic. If their career HAS to be over then it can't be Botha Shine or Pipe for reasons obvious, the Michelin Man wouldn't have avgd. 26, so it has to be our very own Teflon coated Myopic Mick himself then surely?

    1. Playing staff; he's a player now, or would be if there wasn't a tour by the COVID ixx. Mick Newell never played for Notts in this century btw.

    2. Well done Nottsviewer, I was waiting for you to spot my deliberate mistake as Cptn. Mainwaring would say. What about the other two defectors then in Paul Coughlin and Luke"Seabiscuit"Wood also?

    3. Defectors, it take sone to know one perhaps... of the suggestions Coggers 25.00, Woody 23.65 but Billy Root is the third correct name with 26.33.

3 more to find, all 3 earn their living from cricket in one way or another.

    4. Interesting......'Billy' Shafayat must be there or thereabouts possibly?

    5. Billy was better than that, 29.89, but just very steady with his scoring.

  7. What about the poor mans' Trescothick Neil Edwards ? And although a great matchwinning performer very inconsistent with the willow due to his attacking style constantly, Andre Adams ?

  8. Granted that Dre is coaching I believe, but Neil Edwards was an estate agent the last I knew, so not engaged in the cricket business.

Look at my clue from 8.00 this morning again and the clue from 17.32 yesterday, you will have that answer on a plate especially if you go back to a Nottsview post from October last year.

  9. Would you believe that Neil Edwards average for Notts was 38.24? Well don't because it was 24.38.

  10. Mark Wood? Brendan Taylor? Slater? Tom Moores? Not Wessels surely.

There is also a clue from 2139 yesterday as well I believe

    2. Presumably the cheekie chappie we signed from Hove ? Didn't realise he had been quite as poor as that though.

    3. Yes Chris Nash has been as poor as that on average, 26.25.

  11. I must have missed Mark Wood playing for Notts but I assume you meant Matt, and yes Matt is one of the missing 3 with 26.58.

  12. One remains and he is by far the most illustrious of the six players.

    ReplyDelete
  13. He helped win us the title in 2010 on the last day, but overall was disappointing and had a dreadful run of scores in his last season for us, could it be Adam Voges ?

  14. Pujara? Apologies to both Woods and everyone else for that previous screw-up

    1. That's a good shout 'Anon' I reckon you could have nailed it there. For an overseas match winner he was unbelievably poor considering his Test record for India.

    2. Nice try Anonymous but Steve's Notts average was low but not as low as 26, but nearly. 27.75. The missing illustrious former player is arguably more famous (outside India) than Pujara.

    3. I remember him as a raw teenager when he first appeared at Trent Bridge, averaged just 7.75 that year but over his whole Notts career he averaged 37.82. The ex-player that you are grasping for is as famous, or is it infamous, as the man from Picton however.

      Delete
    4. Chris Lewis ? Not confident as I know he scored two double hundreds in his brief time with us, but he's certainly infamous I would say.

      Delete
  15. which millennium did Chris Lewis play for Notts in? Not the one we're restricting our selves to.
