Some sorry reading, but we knew they would be poor...

And thanks to MAG for all the season's warts en'all match reports. These averages must come as a complete surprise to anyone who only reads the official match day reports on Pravda.

ReplyDeleteFirstly thank you for all the reports and stats. I use Nottsview as my only comprehensive source of match reports and info so the work done is really appreciated.
2 thoughts.
A: a tough season for LJ (with the bat at least), HH and Mullaney. You’d stick with the former 2 for potential and the ability to come again. Same for MM (and LPW). They’d be the core of the side although I agree here that the need for an overseas batsman is quite pressing.
But the reality is that a middle order of Mullaney, Moores etc is brittle. That’s not to be too critical. Certainly the skipper absolutely has put himself in the firing line over many seasons and much credit to him. But if we want to be nearer the top of the league than the bottom….
B: Club has made good efforts on paper to back up Hutton and Paterson (credit where it is due, both of these 2 were very good additions) I still think there is room for some from the second xi to be more integrated into the squad.
We can’t rely on 100+ wickets from two bowlers and stand out performances from Clark with the bat. That’s 3 players carrying 8, whereas I suspect in successful teams the opposite is true.
Thanks JimG for your words. And your thoughts, in my opinion, are spot on!
ReplyDeleteWithout doubt, the most important signing that Notts have made in the last 3 years, was to bring back Hutton from Northants.
ReplyDeleteHe has made telling contributions to the team , every season since resigning and has been the standout bowler this season.
The law of averages will suggest that once in a while Newell will get one signing to be spot on.
When you scrutinise the batting averages, it suggests that a number of them need replacing, or a new coach is needed , maybe both.
Steven Mullaney now 37, who has been a great servant to the club, is no longer good enough for the first division, and should be replaced as Captain for next season. If Brett Hutton , wants the captaincy, then he should be the number one candidate.
An overseas batsman has to be a priority, and either Clarke or Schadendorf, should replace Tom Moores behind the stumps.
With the financial resources that Notts have at their disposal, they should be achieving much more .
Peter Moores is now in the last chance saloon. If the club are in a relegation fight again, or have another mediocre season in 2024, them he should be shown the door.
Well played BennySlats in September which meant you finished with a respectable run aggregate and reasonable average for an opening batsman in Division One
DeleteObvious standout is the Hit Man, I don’t think anyone would have said he would take that many wickets(at his pace) in top Division and also continued to play with injuries, so very well played Brett
Joe Clarke is now perhaps the batsman we thought we had signed from Worcester. Another standout performer.
Some of the others Mr. Nottsviewer, yes it really is as you state and yes, I don’t think the Pravda website will be publishing many of these in a hurry

ReplyDeleteYES - many thanks to the NOTTS View team for their really excellent and entertaining match reports and additional comments . The financial cost of providing these over a full season must run into thousands !!??
Long may it continue.
The seasons stats make very sorry reading for some NOTTS players. One or two are now simply not good enough . Time for them to make a decision in the best interests of the Club ?
